My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jewels (Three) was in a car accident. She bounced out of the back of a moving truck, and ended up in a vets office. For Six years, she sat in a cage at the vets, while they used her blood to save countless others. She had one of her front legs amputated, because it was just too damaged to save. They kept excellent care of her medical needs, kept her up to date on everything. Why wouldn't they, they used her to give blood to save many others! Yet in the end, she ended up being named Three and almost ended up in a shelter......We couldn't leave her behind, and let this six or so year old girl, spend one more holiday in a cage, so we had to get her out.

She is a little shy when first meeting people. As soon as she knows you are not there to hurt her, she quickly warms up and opens up to be a very happy go lucky girl! She loves to be pet, loved on and get as much attention as she can get.
We just got her wheelchair. She can get around on her own, but because of the way she sat around for so long, her legs are a little stiff. She gets around enough to be able to eat, drink, do her business and get where she wants to go. We got her the chair to try and help to straighten out her body, and the ultimate goal would be to have her not need it at all, but exactly how far in that goal we get remains to be seen.

Jewels is looking for a true loving family that will love and care for her for the rest of her life!! One that will never leave her behind, take her on trips, and give her all the love and understanding that anyone could ever want!! She loves other dogs, but you have to be careful she does not get hurt, because she does love to play a little rough. We have not had her around cats, but my guess is that she will want to chase them. So if you do have cats and are interested, we can always test her at your home in a controlled way and see how it goes. Being a handicapped pup, the best thing for her and yourself, is that you do not have stairs, or if you do, you are willing to carry her or have a ramp built, which is what we did.

GENDER: female/spayed
