Vanessa and her six siblings were taken to a high-kill shelter when the babies eyes weren't even opened. Their mom was with them, but she had a really badly injured leg. A foster family came forward and the little yellow Labrador mix family was rescued. The mom dog and one of Vanessa 's siblings are now the forever dogs of her foster mom, and mom is undergoing extensive treatment to have her leg repaired. In the meantime, Vanessa and her four siblings are looking for their own forever families. Vanessa and her siblings are well socialized babies and very happy and playful. Out best guess is that their birthday is about Sept. 15, 2012. The puppies will be ready to go to their new homes on Nov. 16. By that time, they will be spayed/neutered, have received three sets of puppy vaccinations (for parvo, distemper, hepatitis and parainfluenza), their kennel cough vaccine, and have been de-wormed. Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.
Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog or puppy at the time of adoption.
The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.
Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.
All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.
Our dogs and puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.
If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.
We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.
