My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beatrice - young (1-3 years of age) - female/spayed - mixed breeds (spaniel/pug/hound best guess?) - 25 pounds - black and white short-to-medium coat with breaching

Beatrice is an adorable and winsome dog, with an expressive face and endearing ways. Timid with people whom she does not yet know, she is clearly capable of bonding deeply with those whom she does know, and she turns to those trusted people for guidance in new situations.

Beatrice was part of a seizure of over 100 dogs who were all being kept in one small environment. Despite her unusual background, she has wonderful house manners; she is impeccably house trained, quiet, and she gets along beautifully with other dogs. Without any real formal training, she is soaking up all her new experiences like an eager sponge; she walks very well on a lead, staying close to her caregiver to whom she looks for instruction and encouragement. Beatrice's natural tendency to put faith in her caregiver has been an excellent platform for training, and her potential adopter needs to recognize that Beatrice will require ongoing support and guidance to help her continue to navigate a world full of surprises.

That being said, time spent with Beatrice is also filled with great rewards, and the joy of seeing a young dog truly blossom as she discovers so may new wonders that she had never sampled before - lying in green grass in sunlight; having her own clean, soft bed; eating and drinking from her own bowls without competition for food; and, best of all to Beatrice, the delight of knowing that a shy nuzzle from her will be rewarded by petting, hugging, and kind words.

Her foster care provider has laughed over the multitude of breeds that friends have suggested went into Beatrice. Rather than venture guesses of our own, we have been happy to say that she is a unique, one of a kind, Heinz 57. Long-backed and sturdy, Beatrice has a shining coat, a rather impressive tail, lovely brown eyes, and soft, open and curious eye contact. She moves beautifully, with a prancing gait.

Beatrice has been blessed with a happy, trusting, and gentle countenance. She is an honest dog who takes nothing in her life for granted. She will bring a special kindness and appreciation to her adoptive home.
