Arti's Story...
***ARTI IS A COURTESY LISTING AND IS NOT IN THE CARE OF THE AHS. ALL STATEMENTS OF INTERESTS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO ARTI'S CURRENT OWNERS****

Hi there.

I’m Artie, the most gentle and mellow dog you’ll ever meet. I grew up with three kids and a cat, so I’m used to looking after just about anything you could throw at me in terms of a home environment.
I was brought up right, in one very nice family for ten years, and they taught me excellent manners.
Don’t get the wrong idea, though. I’m all dog. I love my walks…. ahh fresh air! It makes me giddy to think about all those smells. But hey, you’re busy today? I’m cool with staying by myself. I’m used to it. I’ll still do my happy dance when you get home.
I may be ten, but I love to play.
Don’t spread it around to the other dogs, but I can do tricks. I lie down, sit, shake, roll over and wave my legs in the air like a bug. All you have to do is spin your finger.
I don’t know so much about my ancestry. Mom was a Shar-pei and Dad ? Well, maybe a Boxer passing through town.
I don’t need much. I’m not a big eater and I’m too proud to beg. (But I wouldn’t say no to a scrap off the old human menu, you know what I mean?) At night, all I ask is a blanket so I can guard my humans. Then I’m bright and cheerful in the morning, ready for the day. A new family? Bring it! Can’t wait to meet you.
If you are interested , please fill out a statement of interest form at www.alternativehumanesociety.com (under the ADOPT menu) and tell them you would like to meet me! Thanks!

DUE TO HIS OWNER'S CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES, ARTI NEEDS TO FIND A NEW HOME BY NOV. 30TH, 2012!!!!

About Our Rescue Group...
The Alternative Humane Society is an all-volunteer, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Whatcom County, WA. AHS has been helping animals and educating the public since 1977.

We have no shelter, office, or paid staff. Our programs include Canine Foster & Adoption, Spay & Neuter Assistance, and Community Cats Information and Referral.

Mission Statement: The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats and helping them find and stay in permanent loving homes.

Our goals are:
• To make Whatcom County a community where no healthy animals are euthanized
• To prevent unwanted dog and cat births through spay and neuter assistance
• To cultivate respect and awareness for the needs of animals through education
• To advocate for the humane treatment of dogs and cats in all areas of life

Come Meet Our Pets...
We can be found showing off our loveable dogs at Petco on Bakerview and Guide Meridian in Bellingham on the 1st and 2nd weekend of each month. We also hold an adopt-a-thon the third Saturday of every month at Pet Palace, also on the Guide Meridian in Bellingham. All our showings are between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Come on out and say hi!
Our Adoption Process...
AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 2-3 days, but since many of our volunteers also work at full-time jobs, the entire process can take longer. Although we try our very best we usually will not be able to contact every person who submits a Statement of Interest, we reserve our limited resources for those who look like a good match.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs under 18 months – $170
Dogs over 18 months – $145
Senior dogs (older than 8 years) – $95

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Custer, Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Sumas, Maple Falls, Kendall, Whatcom County, Skagit County

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Arti, a Bellingham Shar Pei dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shar Pei for sale in Bellingham, or seeking a Shar Pei dog from a breeder in Bellingham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bellingham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bellingham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shar Pei breeders who help with Shar Pei rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bellingham paves the way for another one to be saved.
