Portia's Story...
Portia has such a survivor's story! She landed at Animal Care & Control in September, and because she is eartipped (the mark of a street cat that has been spayed or neutered), all attempts were made to locate her caretaker and return her to her colony. It was then discovered that Portia's caretaker had passed away, and so a plan was hatched to introduce her into a new colony. No one knew at the time what an amazing disposition Portia had, nor how easily she would take to being an indoor cat, which perhaps she once was.

One week into her recolonization program, Portia developed an eye infection and was promptly taken to the vet. Because she required medicine on a daily basis, a foster home was found, and that's when Portia truly began to shine. Upon release into the domestic environment, Portia circled the room to thank and receive pets from her saviors. Despite her infection, Portia's spirits were immediately lifted, and they haven't dropped since.

Portia doesn't sit still for long. She loves human affection and walks back and forth constantly, rubbing her face into any available hands before rolling over for belly rubs. She very much dislikes being picked up, undoubtedly due to the weeks of medications and eye drops that she had to endure. This may change in time. However, being a prize snuggler, she does crawl into a lap for love and a good nap.

Portia enjoys company during meals and even purrs while eating. She's quite a talker, too, especially if treats are involved, and she's crazy for catnip-laced toys

This beautiful girl may as well be a Russian Blue, even though street cats don't come with papers pinned to their chests. Portia is about 2 years old. She's been spayed and is up to date on vaccines. She is also microchipped and neg/neg for FeLV/FIV.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Portia, a Brooklyn Russian Blue cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Russian Blue for sale in Brooklyn, or seeking a Russian Blue cat from a breeder in Brooklyn.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Brooklyn already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Brooklyn breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Russian Blue breeders who help with Russian Blue rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Brooklyn paves the way for another one to be saved.
