FOSTER or ADOPT SOFIA!

Foster Program:  Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.   For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/?page_id=64.

Sponsor a Dog!   Sponsors help us provide additional medical treatment beyond basic vetting, and helps offset boarding costs when our foster homes are full.    K-9 Lifesavers treats dogs with heartworm, parvo, upper respiratory infections, and special surgical procedures.  Our adoption fees do not fully cover the additional vetting costs for these illnesses, and/or boarding.   For more information on our Sponsor Program, visit:  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/?page_id=58.

Adoption Counselor:  Julie at americad1@msn.com

Dog's Name: Sofia

Estimated Breed: Shepherd/ husky mix

Approximate Age: 10 months

Approximate Weight: 55 lbs.

Currently Living at:  BOARDING.

Sofia and Coppola were driven to a rural high kill shelter in alabama by their owners and left there because they had 'no time' for them. Luckily we had a transporter there picking up some other dogs because the shelter had no space. They are now in the Dc area and are in search of a home that does have time for them. They are both very sweet and well behaved. They love to play and enjoy being with other dogs.

Your new pet may require a refresher in house-training but is likely crate-trained.  K-9 Lifesavers recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training.   This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and new owner.

The adoption fee for this dog is $295, which includes basic vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and transport costs.   If interested in adopting, please download and complete an Adoption Application and email to Julie at americad1@msn.com

About Our Rescue Group...
K-9 Lifesavers rescues homeless and abandoned dogs from high-kill shelters and other high-risk situations. K-9 Lifesavers works with dedicated volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and kennels to provide loving temporary care while we find well-matched, carefully screened forever homes for each dog we take in. We also serve as a support group to our adopters and all dog owners by providing ongoing education and resources for the well-being of their dogs, including the importance of proactive spay/neuter policies, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

K-9 Lifesavers is an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization. We rescue dogs and puppies that are scheduled for euthanasia from high kill shelters in Georgia, West Virginia, the Carolina’s, Tennessee, and Kentucky. We pay transporters to bring the dogs to the DC metro area. When they arrive, we do basic vetting and do our best to assess any emotional, physical or training needs they might have. We do not have a Shelter Facility; we use boarding facilities, private foster homes, partner veterinarians, and trainers. K-9 Lifesavers holds adoption events every weekend in various locations to help place our dogs in well-screened suitable homes and is always accepting volunteers.

We welcome you to explore our website ( http://www.k-9lifesavers.org ), see the dogs that we rescue, and all that we have to offer, then please join us in our continuing efforts to give them a second chance at life.

Come Meet Our Pets...
K-9 Lifesavers holds adoption events every weekend. Potential adopters can request specific dogs be brought to an event by filling out an adoption questionnaire and returning it to the adoption counselor listed in the dogs bio. If you are scheduled to attend an adoption event to meet a dog, please bring your completed adoption application with you.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist at events, staffing the table and showing off the dogs to potential adopters.

All adoption events are from 12 – 2pm:

1st Sunday of each Month – Petco – 1507 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md

2nd Sunday of each Month – Petsmart – 6100 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, VA

3rd Saturday of each Month - Petsmart – 12020 Cherry Hill Road Silver Spring, MD

4th Saturday of each Month – Petco- 2319 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD

Our Adoption Process...
The adoption process is almost always completed within one week of time you submitted your application (times can vary depending on your location, the dog’s location, and availability).

· Fill out an adoption application (Completion of the Adoption Application does not guarantee adoption- it is the first step in our adoption process).

· An adoption counselor will call or email you to review your application.

· The adoption counselor will call your reference, landlord/condo association, and veterinarian (if applicable).

· The adoption counselor will set up a home visit (the entire household should be present for the visit).

· An adoption counselor will schedule a time for you, your family, and any other pets to meet the dog(s) you've applied for.

Once approved, you will need to finalize your adoption by completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee in cash or check. At that time, available medical records will be provided along with a variety of other information.
