My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi y'all! I'm Lucas. I was dumped at a shelter in rural Tennessee by my breeder because I didn't meet his 'standards'. Thankfully a rescue pulled me from the shelter and saved my life! Unfortunately, it was discovered that I have severe hip dysplasia. It sure doesn't keep me down though! I run and jump and play and snuggle just like any other dog. Just in case, though, my rescue bought me a wheelchair to go for long walks, runs, or even to hunt if you want! I'm a good ol boy who loves to play with other dogs and chew on my toys.

I am SO good with other dogs that I would be best in a home with another dog or two to play with! I'm great with dogs of any size, shape, age or temperment.

I will require someone who will keep me active. Because of my dysplasia, being lazy actually will make my hips hurt! When my foster mom got me, I could barely walk because I had lived in a small pen for my whole life. Now that I get to run and play, I'm big and strong and feel much better!

Because I lived my whole puppyhood in a pen away from people, I can be a little bit skittish at first (but I'm working on it!). I had never walked on a leash, been in a car, in a house, or slept in a nice warm bed- all of these were new and scary at first, but now I've mastered them all! It takes me a little bit to warm up to people, but once you gain my trust I'm a very loyal boy.

My foster mom says I would make a perfect therapy dog to visit hospitals and nursing homes because I am very gentle and I am soooooo nice to pet- my head and ears feel like velvet! She is currently training me to be a therapy dog.

Do you have what it takes to be my family? I've always wanted a family of my own!
