About Our Shelter...
The National Cat Protection Society is a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter dedicated to the protection and welfare of cats. Founded in 1968 by the late career humane officer C. Richard Calore, we take in owner-relinquished cats and kittens on a space-available basis and adopt them to screened homes. Our staff and volunteers give only the very best care to our kitties. We also offer lifetime care for a one-time fee and humane education throughout our communities.

We are closed Sunday and Monday. We must catnap sometime!

Our Adoption Process...
To adopt a cat or kitten from NATCAT, you must first complete an application in person. After reviewing your application on-the-spot, we may invite you to visit our kitties.

If no adoption occurs, we hold your application for one year.

Our adoption fees start at $75, which includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, de-worming, flea control, micro chipping and leukemia testing prior to adoption. We also provide cardboard carriers, a sample of dry cat food, and a veterinarian exam at no charge. While you visit our cats and kittens, we gladly provide their background and answer any questions on the kitty that interests you.

Adopt a cat or kitten from NatCat today - and also take home a two-week supply of free Friskies® canned food! This supply totals up to seven cans for cats and four cans for kittens. Preparing for a new kitty's arrival often means buying new items. Now, we provide food to help lighten your load while easing the transition. Supply is limited, so hurry in for your furry friend and the food caboodle today!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bean, a Newport Beach Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Newport Beach, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Newport Beach.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Newport Beach already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Newport Beach breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Newport Beach paves the way for another one to be saved.
