My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 1/12/2013: Well Happy New Year!!! I must have been a very good girlie last year because Santy Claws (haha get it?) got me exactly what I always wanted - someone to love me and take care of me and help me to WALK!! Yay! I'm not sure if you remember, but when I came into rescue, I had hardly any hair, I had a snaggle tooth that exposed almost the entire tooth and was very painful, and I walked like a froggy because my knees were luxated so badly. My owners surrendered me to the shelter with fleabite allergies (I smelled really bad), and that's when foster mommy found me. That was the day my life turned around.
I am 8 lbs (maybe even 8.5 lb) of lovin' and am probably 6-7 years old (though the owners told the shelter I was 5). I am being fostered in Miami, FL and am loving every minute of it. Since I came into rescue, I was given high quality food, fatty acid supplements for my coat, antibiotics for my skin (which are long finished), and most of all - LOVE! I was spayed and had my snaggletooth removed. Last month on 12/13, I had both knees operated on with my friends at Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists. I was skeered, but they were so nice to me. I showered them with kisses to show them how much I appreciated them! I trusted FM and all my United Yorkie Rescue friends to do what was needed to be done to get me better. Well, fast forward almost a month and I am looking PAWSOME! I am still not supposed to be walking much. I go outside to potty and am not allowed to run or jump. I am housetrained, friendly to all people (though sometimes I get a little jealous of other puppies.... but then I decide they're fine and we play play play - even if it's sitting on the couch and playing gently). I am now in the market for my new home. Could it be you? Watch out, though, FM is gonna be REAL picky. She loves me a whole lot! Thanks for looking!!

UPDATED BIO 10/282012: Well, Bijou is actually only 7.2 lb and should be closer to 8-9 lbs to be at a better weight. FM suspects this little girl is younger than 5 years since her teeth are beautiful (just like Bijou!). We'll see what the specialists have to say this week about little Miss Bijou. Keep her in your thoughts please.

INITIAL BIO 10/26/2012: No matter how long you're in rescue, you still manage to see cases that rip your heart out and cause you to ask yourself how people can be so cruel. Bijou (from French meaning "jewel") is a 5 year old 9 lb little girl who was surrendered by her owners to a high kill shelter. It was upon examination of Bijou; her loss of hair, her underweight appearance, and her abnormal gait (way she walks) that caused the shelter to open an abuse investigation. This little girl was infested with fleas, has little hair remaining on her body, and has a secondary bacterial and yeast infection that causes her to smell. She is in horrible discomfort and scratches herself constantly (she is on antihistamines and wears a little shirt to prevent her from doing damage to herself). When you watch her walk, she stoops low, poised s if she needs to defecate. We are not sure if this is a knee problem, a hip problem or if this is related to her itchiness and discomfort. Bijou will be thoroughly examined by a vet and UYR will make sure this little girl never sees another sad day in her life. It's important to note Bijou can walk, albeit slowly, and gets around just fine. We cannot imagine the horrors this girl experienced in her short life. We know only happy days remain. Please help us help our precious Jewel. Thank you
