Stormy's Story...
9-24-12 Update: As you can tell from her picture, Stormy is making great progress. Her yeast infection is gone, and she has a lot of hair growing back in. The swelling in her face has gone down, and her eye is no longer draining. Stormy is doing so well under her foster mom's care that we are starting heartworm treatment on her, and her foot will be X-rayed to see if and how to remove the tumor so that she can walk with less pain. She is really starting to show her happy and outgoing Giant personality and loves everyone she meets. Stormy has an amazing story to tell, and we will keep you updated as it progresses. Keep her in your thoughts during the heartworm treatment.

Stormy was transferred to us from an animal control after she was found as a stray and never claimed. She was in terrible condition, and we are slowly working to rehab her. She has been with us a month now and made amazing progress in that month. She has numerous health issues going on from yeast infection on her skin to being positive for heartworms. She is not ready for adoption yet, and being a senior, may never find an adopter. If that is the case, then Stormy will live the rest of her life in a foster home being spoiled and hoarding toys in her crate as she is fond of doing. Even though Stormy is not ready to go yet, we do have other senior Giant Schnauzers that are available, if you are interested.

Because Stormy was microchipped, she was tracked to one of her previous owners who shared pictures of her in her younger days. Obviously she has not been treated well since she was sold. Use Stormy's story as a lesson to always screen and follow-up with your pets if you have to re-home them. Also, please spay and neuter them.

If you are interested in one of our Schnauzers, please visit www.bsro.org to review our adoption requirements and complete an application. We require home visits and at least one group obedience class for our dogs. Placements will only be done where our volunteers can do a home visit. As we work under the national Giant Schnauzer rescue, www.ht-z.org, our Giants can be placed anywhere they have a volunteer also

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Stormy, a Springfield Schnauzer (Giant) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Schnauzer (Giant) for sale in Springfield, or seeking a Schnauzer (Giant) dog from a breeder in Springfield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Springfield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Springfield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Schnauzer (Giant) breeders who help with Schnauzer (Giant) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Springfield paves the way for another one to be saved.
