My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Read more about me here: http://www.mwcr.org/2012/chester.htm

Chester had a rather rocky start in life. Most of his past is a mystery, but when a farm family found him as a stray, he had a badly injured rear leg. They took him to a shelter that contacted MWCR and while we don’t know what happened to Chester’s leg, it appears that he caught it in something, possibly a leg trap. One of MWCR’s dedicated foster homes took care of Chester through his long and costly recovery period, and today he is a happy, energetic collie who can run and play like any young dog. He will always limp and he wears a special, protective boot on one leg, but he doesn’t let that slow him down.

Chester is a well behaved guy who is fully house trained and crate trained. His foster mom sometimes works long hours, so he and his canine companions use a doggie door to come and go as they please. He knows a variety of commands including “sit,” “shake,” “down,” “up on the bed,” and “get the ball.” He walks well on his leash and is a very smart boy who is now attending intermediate obedience training with his foster mom. Because he was once a stray, we feel that he should have a forever home with a fenced yard, though he has shown no desire to run away.

Chester has been around children and is good with them, but he doesn’t fully appreciate his own size and power, so he could be a bit too rough with young kids. He will sometimes use his mouth during play, but his foster mom is working to correct this and he is getting better. Chester loves to rough house with other dogs, but when it comes to one-on-one time with his people, he believes that all the attention should be his. He has been known to knock over his fellow canines when he wants to get some cuddle time from his foster mom. He loves cats and would enjoy having a feline friend who was dog savvy enough not to be intimidated by his boisterous manner.

Chester is a curious, affectionate boy who follows his foster mom everywhere, always eager to see what she is doing and to be a part of it. He loves tummy rubs and cuddles, and if he wants something, he will put his foot on you to get your attention. He has a real zest for life and seems to enjoy everything that comes his way: treats, toys, balls, chew bones, cat food, you name it! But his favorite thing of all is attention from his people.

Chester would love a forever home that included older children and/or cats. He would be fine with another dog that didn’t demand too much of his people’s attention or he would be good as an only dog who could soak up all the love for himself. He was named for the Gunsmoke character who limped, but Chester says that since he is moving on to his new life, he would be happy to take on a new identity, and he will love you no matter what you call him.
