SAM's Info...
| Breed: | Bernese Mountain Dog Mix | Color: | Red/Golden/Orange/Chestnut - With Black | Age: | Adult |
| Size: | Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) | Sex: | Male | ID#: | 5207734 |
I am already neutered, up to date with shots, and not good with dogs.
SAM came to us when his home was destroyed in the Mississippi river flood of 2011. Before his Mom could rebuild, she became ill and passed away, and so Sam and his friends, Benji, Callie and Spot, remained safely with us at THS. As much as we love these dogs, we realize they are all ready for new homes and families of their very own. We know their Mom is looking down from heaven and she wants them to have homes.
SAM is a beautiful and very stocky and strong boy. He has the most beautiful wavy/curly fur that is orange ticked with black. We all kind of wish we could clone his fur.....Sam takes treats with a gentle little nibble and he is smart as the dickens. He gets along very well with his former housemates and he is kenneled with his friend Spot - but we believe he would do best in a home with no other animals. SAM is a manly boy and I can picture him riding shotgun in his daddy's pickup - or outback playing with the children. He is a good boy and he tries to please. He just needs a new family now.
If you are interested in adopting this dog please give us a call.
We know each of the animals entrusted to our care by name and we will be happy to tell you all about the personality and little quirks that make each animal so loved. Our adoption fee for a dog is $100 and that covers all shots and vetting and spay/neuter. Our animals are fully vetted before we send them off to their new family.

Shelter Info...
The Tunica Humane Society desires to improve the quality of life for all animals in Tunica County by aggressively pursuing a high quality, low cost spay-neuter program. We are dedicated to saving the lives of all animals who are endangered, neglected, abandoned or abused. It is our hearts desire to see Tunica become a "NO KILL" model community in a world where over 5 million dogs and cats are destroyed every year simply because they are considered "disposable".
"Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin, and Toto don't show up in a rescue shelter. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, or perfectly behaved dog or cat. We get leftovers. Animals that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained" and badly treated. Most rescue dogs and cats have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've lived outside..in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed, and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.
But the Tunica Humane Society will not give up. We will never give up on an animal. We know that they are living beings, with a spirit, a heart, and feelings. Our animals are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminister champion. So...please, please don't come to rescue a dog or cat in the hopes of getting a "bargain" or indeed of "getting" anything. Come to the shelter to give, to love, and to save a life and to mend your own spirit. For rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. We can promise you this...a rescue dog or cat will make you a better person." UNKNOWN
At the Tunica Humane Society, our goal is to do the best adoption possible...matching you with a pet that will become a lifelong member of your family. To ensure the best possible match between adopter and pet, we ask that you read and understand the information provided regarding our adoption policies and procedures. You will be asked to sign a legal contract when adopting your pet and you must pay an adoption fee/donation. The fees go directly to our rescue group to help us save more animals. Thank you for opening your heart and considering adopting a shelter dog. By making this commitment, you have not only found a friend for life...you have saved a life. If at any time you cannot keep the dog, you MUST return it to the Tunica Humane Society and not to another individual or shelter.
Our physical location is open by appointment only. We are a totally volunteer organization. We hold adoption events throughout the Memphis metro area each weekend and we post the events on our Facebook page.
We require a contract from each adopter and all adoptions are approved by the executive director, Sandy Williams. There is a $100 adoption donation. We know each of our animals by name and we can tell you all about them. We want the very best home for each animal and we want each adoption to be successful.
