My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chloe is the perfect golden retriever! She is an 9-11 year old spayed purebred golden retriever female who is sweet-mannered, mellow, easygoing, low maintenance, and funny - the list goes on! She is completely housebroken and has NEVER had an accident in the house even when left home alone for hours. In fact, she will even let you know when she needs to go outside. She has excellent leash manners and loves to go for car rides. She has no destructive habits and is completely trustworthy with loose roam in the house while you're gone. She also sleeps loose on her bed in her foster families bedroom at night. No kennel needed, although she is kennel-trained and will go into a kennel when asked. She is just an easy going dog who is easy to take care of!

Her owner passed away and she was taken in by the owner's granddaughter, who was then evicted from her home, so Chloe ended up at a shelter until she came to GRFR. She had obviously been neglected for a long time. Her fur was severely matted into clumps, which we had to cut off, so her fur is growing back in some places. Her nails were so long that they were sideways and required a vet's attention to cut to a normal length, which has made a huge difference in Chloe's ability to get around! As you can see, she has not had the easiest life, but she is incredibly sweet and friendly in spite of her past!

She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, including her two foster brothers who are boisterous, playful younger dogs. She loves getting attention and being with her humans, but is not in-your-face about it. She will lean up against you when she wants attention, but won't jump all over you. She also does a heartachingly adorable little dance when she knows it is feeding time, and sometimes when you come home. Chloe loves dog toys and will carry them around in her mouth. She especially likes balls and tug rope dog toys and will try to get you to play with her sometimes.

Chloe would like to go to a home with a minimal amount of stairs. She does okay on her foster families stairs in their two-story house with a basement which is used frequently, but they aren't the easiest thing for her. Although her foster family doesn't know if she has ever lived with children, she has been socially tested around children and passed with flying colors. However, they think it would be better for her to go to a home without very young, rambunctious children who would run her ragged. She likes her beauty sleep, after all!

Chloe has a few extra pounds that she is working on losing in order to regain her girlish figure. She recently underwent a thyroid test which showed that her thyroid was borderline low, which might contribute to the excess weight. She is on thyroid medication for the next few weeks until she goes back to the vet for another thyroid test. If she does have hypothyroidism, it is treatable with very affordable medication.

Please let us know if you are interested in meeting this sweet girl! Fill out a GRFR application and one of our volunteers will contact you soon!
