My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marley is a 6 yr old purebred golden retriever and is a large-boned 93 pound male. He is a very sweet boy! He loves attention; even comes up and places his head in your lap for pets. Marley likes being close to "his people" and will lay quietly by your side while you work or watch TV. Marley is house and crate trained. He is great about pottying when you take him out. He loves his giant crate and sometimes seeks out the security and quiet for a short nap. Marley rides well in the car with a harness and seat belted in. Marley is definitely a retriever who loves to chase a frisbee or ball. He could do this all day long! He enjoys all sorts of dog toys and chewing on nylabones. He is good in the bath and thinks the full body massage is wonderful! Although Marley is in good health, he needs to lose 5-7 pounds. He will need his new home to watch his ears as they sometimes get itchy. A quick cleaning followed by a steroid ointment available from the vet helps him to get over the itching.

From his reaction to cats at the vet's office, his foster mother thinks Marley will do better in a home without cats or other critters. Marley is most comfortable when he is the "top dog" so a home without another dog or a very submissive dog would work best for Marley. He is an adventurous type and likes to explore and sometimes pickup things, inside and outside, that can be dangerous for a Golden. At first he will need constant guidance from his forever home to learn what is ok and what isn't. He is working hard to learn the command "leave it". Marley knows basic commands such as sit, down and come. "Stay" is a tough one for Marley since he is so interested in everything! He does well on a leash when reminded to "heel." Sometimes he smells something yummy and the excitement overwhelms him and he must go explore. Marley will benefit from an obedience class to help establish his new family as his leader. Marley is looking for a forever family that will be willing to give him the training and direction he needs while enjoying the love and snuggles only a Golden Retriever can give!

We do feel Marley will do best in a home with older kids or no kids as he does like to eat things found on the floor so for his safety a home with no young children will be best.
