I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.
This big, beautiful boy is Bear, a six-year-old coated German Shepherd Dog. Don't let his age fool you. He is healthy, happy and has the energy of a puppy!
Bear never, ever goes anywhere without a ball or Kong toy in his mouth. He LOVES his toys, will play fetch all day, or will happily entertain himself with them. When he does finally put them down, he "hides" them in his food or water bowl!
Poor Bear has been in foster care over a year now, partly because it took several months to nurse him back to health after he'd been dumped on a rural road. Bear was so emaciated when he was found, one could pick up his large frame with one hand! At his first vet visit, he only weighed 52 pounds and it was discovered he was heartworm positive. Over the next several months, he was treated for heartworm and nursed to a healthy 90 pounds. So why is such a beautiful boy still living in rescue? It seems that people view dogs over five years of age as "old," so it is much harder for them to find their forever home . . . even though they deserve one so much. Poor Bear was abandoned by his people when he was sick and he nearly starved to death. We have lovingly mended his fragile body, so that he is now a HUGE, healthy, beautiful boy, but only a forever family can completely mend his heart. Will you be that family?
