Do you love an underdog story – then meet Dexter
Dexter has been waiting quite a while for his new home – we aren’t 100% sure but I am convinced it’s because no matter how good the photos, they absolutely do not catch how handsome he is….or how sweet he is….or how playful he is. This is one of those dogs you have to meet in person.
He was rescued from one of the worse high kill shelters in Georgia literally 2 hours before his “time.” We saw him on a list of dogs to be euthanized (we get many every day) and there was just something about him. He was sprung and he’s been great ever since.
Dexter is an awesome dog- great around people, happy, active, and loving. He stares at you with eyes that will make you melt and is a great cuddle partner. Dexter plays in daycare every day and does great – he’s a big hit.
Do you need a jogging buddy? A canine companion to hike with? A dog who will be endlessly loyal and sit on the couch and eat ice cream with you when you are feeling blue? Dexter is your dog. Don't let his "average, nothing special look" fool you- this dog will be an extraordinary companion in the right home.
Dexter’s foster mom sent us this update: Dexter is very lovable, enjoys being around people and other dogs. He does have some Pointer Breed in him; thus his urge to go after small animals. He is learning to walk on a leash; does well with the gentle leader harness. He’s a strong boy and I think he’d do best in a dog-saavy home. A fenced yard would be idea with a canine sibling to play with (and he loves the ladies…) as he does need an outlet for his energy, running, daycare etc. Dexter doesn't bark unnecessarily can be redirected easily and will relax with you on the couch(if allowed) at the end of the day.
Dexter is completely housetrained, up to date on all his vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative. He’ll go in a crate if necessary.
Interested in adopting handsome Dexter? Please visit our website and complete an online application – we respond much quicker to applications than to emails as we receive a voluminous amount of email each day and it’s impossible to respond to all of them in a timely manner even though we try.
An application does not mean you are required to adopt – it just lets us know you are seriously considering this dog for adoption.
Complimentary Physical Exam: Paws New England as recently joined VCA Animal Hospitals in a program providing new adopters with a certificate for an initial health exam at a VCA Hospital and treatment of certain conditions free of charges for the first 5 days. This is a great program and PAWS is thrilled to be participating in for our adopter.
Pet Insurance: There are also numerous other pet insurance programs available to shelter animals. Paws New England recommends Trupanion – they provide one month of free insurance to shelter dogs and then very management monthly fee – they have one plan and several vets have advised that their payouts are quick and reasonably easy, unlike other companies; they cover many things other pet insurance policies do not.
