Betty Davis Eyes is only way to describe Wanda – those big brown eyes look at you with love and kindness and your heart just melts. A sweet and gentle girl, Wanda is about 2-1/2 years old and weighs 12 lbs.
It appears Wanda was a victim of the economy. We think her owners left her behind when they lost their home. But for Wanda it was a blessing in disguise because, based on her condition when she was found, they hadn't been taking care of her anyway. Or she may have been used by a backyard breeder to make beautiful puppies and then dumped when she was no longer needed. When Wanda was found, she was underweight and extremely dirty, worm and flea infested, but still she had a waggy tail for everyone she met. She's such a sweetheart!
Wanda loves everyone, and she gets along great with the other dogs and likes to play with them. Cats... well she likes to play with them, too, but her favorite game is chase. There are 4 resident cats in her foster home, so needless to say it's an adventure. :) Wanda would never hurt them, but she will bark at them trying to get them to run. Fortunately, you can easily distract her by calling her to you because she would much rather be with you!
Otherwise, she is quiet and calm and would love to curl up on your lap or roll over for a belly rub. She loves to play with her soft squeeky toys and she loves her rawhide chewies. She walks great on a leash, and she rides well in the car. Wanda is a sweet and happy little girl, and would love to have a home where she will be the cherished family member she was always meant to be.
A word about tear-staining: Wanda, like many white dogs, has some red/brown staining under her eyes. While this is common, and not harmful, it is not a maltese's normal appearance. It is usually caused by diet. If a white dog eats foods, treats, or plays with chewies that are dark in color, or have red or brown dyes in them, that causes this type of staining. Simply eliminate the dyes and change their diet to light colored foods, such as chicken or lamb, and within a few months the staining will be gone (the hair is actually stained, so it needs to grow out). I have already changed her diet, so we're on our way.... My groomer said she grooms for people who have show dogs, and their trick for preventing tear-staining is to give their dogs 1 tsp of yogurt every day. I don't know first hand whether this works, but it might be worth a try. :)
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, vet checked, current on vaccinations, microchipped, groomed, de-wormed, de-flea'd, and come with a collar, leash, ID tag, and puppy kisses from the lucky dog you take home!
If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Wanda, the first step is to submit an adoption application. Please go to our website www.k9bestfriendsforever.com and click on "Adopt" which will take you to our online application form.
Rescue Group Info...
Our goal is to rescue at-risk dogs and place them in stable, loving, and permanent homes.
Through no fault of their own, these dogs find themselves in shelters or with guardians who can no longer care for them. We believe each dog is special and deserves to be cherished and protected. We are dedicated to helping find these loyal companions a permanent home and a second chance at life.
