Marshal's Story...
Like big, handsome dogs? Then you must meet Marshal!
*****
Hi there, my name is Marshal! My body is larger-than-average, but so is my heart! I came to ACCT as a stray. I must have gotten lost, but a nice person brought me to the shelter. Now I have a bunch of new friends! They love me a lot, so they are trying to find a great home for me.
*****
I am part of the Pen Pal program at the shelter, and my pen pals (that's right, not one but two!) are helping me work on my basic commands and manners. My Pen Pals are teaching me so much! I know "sit", "look at me", "touch" and I am learning more new commands every week. My Pen Pals like to take me on long walks and I love the time out of the shelter with some one-on-one time with my special friends. They sometimes use a harness or a Gentle Leader so I can walk nicely with them. Besides fun walks, I love nice pets and a little massage and I turn to a big mushy boy. I love to have some quiet time with people. Do you have a nice soft bed I can sleep on to relax? I would love to be your buddy and keep you company. I also love to play with tennis balls! I have not yet mastered the game of fetch just yet but I love to chase the balls and chew on them.
*****
Marshal is part of the ACCT Pen Pal program. That means that he is paired with volunteers who are dedicated to helping him learn basic commands, keeping him stress-free while in the shelter, and who market him to potential foster parents and adopters. If you want to know more about Marshal or see if he is a good fit for you, please contact his Pen Pals at adoptfosters@gmail.com and pkottsieper@gmail.com.

About Our Shelter...
The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 32,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Marshal, a Philadelphia Pit Bull Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pit Bull Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) for sale in Philadelphia, or seeking a Pit Bull Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog from a breeder in Philadelphia.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Philadelphia already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Philadelphia breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pit Bull Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) breeders who help with Pit Bull Terrier/Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Philadelphia paves the way for another one to be saved.
