I am already spayed, up to date with shots, and good with cats.
In April of this year, Francesca was a tiny kitten when her foster mom noticed that she seemed to be having occasional difficulties breathing—gasping for breath. The vet found she had a heart problem that might be controlled through surgery; AnimaLovers decided to try to raise the needed money. We held several fundraisers, and the capital district’s animal lovers came through! Francesca’s surgery, performed in May of this year, was successful. Prior to surgery she was only 5 pounds; as of her check-up at the end of November, she had doubled her weight. Her foster mom notes that she looks great, now! She is also very sweet and loving. While Francesca will always be on medication, her foster mom says she takes her medication very easily—and, her medication is inexpensive. So, although many things have gone right for Francesca this year, she still does not have a forever home. AnimaLovers was founded in 1995 by a small group of friends who wanted to provide needy cats and dogs in the Capital District of New York with a better way to find their way to safety and new lives. As of 2011, AnimaLovers is serving cats, only. AnimaLovers's mission is to:
* To provide housing, veterinary care, and adoption for unwanted, abandoned, injured, or stray cats;
* To educate adopters, as well as the general public, about the health and training needs of our companion animals;
* To promote spaying and neutering as an efficient and humane means of animal population control; and
* To advocate for legislation that will prevent cruelty to animals.
In addition, AnimaLovers has expanded beyond the boundaries of cat and dog rescue and adoption to meet the needs of other animals as well by creating programs to help families keep their companion animals healthy by providing low cost spay/neuter services and emergency veterinary care.
