My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Esme is a young (11-13 wk) puppy. Our best guess is that she is a husky/shepherd cross and will grow up to be a large, beautiful girl. She has a short coat with black and brown markings, except for her little white sock feet. She has very large, expressive brown eyes and a sweet face, even though she hasn't quite grown into her ears yet.

Esme is from Rankin Inlet, an isolated community of about 2300 in Nunavut. She was found abandoned outside in -45 degree C weather, freezing to death. Since we found her, she has been living in our apartment with us and learning the ins and outs of life as a loved pet. She is a typical affectionate and playful puppy. She sleeps in a crate in the bedroom at night without any protest or accidents. And while she is not fully house trained yet outside of the crate, she is making good progress. She is eager to please and will follow you from room to room just to be in your company. She enjoys playing tug of war and fetch, and is learning to drop the ball when asked. She has been around other dogs, both large and small, and is very polite when inviting them to play with her. She has also been exposed to young children and enjoys playing with them, although she tires out more quickly than they do! Esme is also particularly snuggly when she's sleepy.

Although we are very fond of Esme, we are sadly not in a position to be able to keep her. We tried to find a home for her in Rankin Inlet, but unfortunately there was no one who was able to provide her with the family she needs and deserves. We are travelling to Toronto for the holidays and are bringing her with us so she can hopefully find a family to be a part of here in Ontario. She has never seen grass or trees and has never been exposed to sidewalks and traffic, so her family may have to be a little patient in introducing her to all these new things. However, she is not fearful by nature and has the potential to thrive in her new environment.

If you would like to make this sweet baby part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
