found a new home!
Plenty of my friends are looking
for one too. Find a pet to adopt.
I am already spayed, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, and good with dogs.
Melly is approx. 7 years old according to our vet's best guess. She weighs 28 lbs. and is still a bit thin so needs to gain a few, which should be no problem because she loves her dog food. She was merely "skin and bones" when we rescued her from a Houston-area shelter, poor thing. Her coat was dull, ears were tattered, teeth needed a deep cleaning and a couple of extractions, and of course she required a super-sized bath! Now she is clean and soft, and looks beautiful.
She gets along with the other dogs in the household but is not one to want to play with them, rather she prefers to hang around the humans, hoping to get some good petting (or some treats). She likes to go on walks with the "pack" but lacks confidence when meeting up with strangers, or if a loud truck goes by. Her foster mom takes her and the other beagles in the household on a nightly walk, and they all visit the PetsMart once a week to learn how to meet and greet others. At night Melly usually sleeps in a crate, but she is also happy to curl up in a dog bed, hoping her foster mom will forget to "box her up" in her kennel for the night.
Hound lovers will appreciate Melody's huge, silky ears and her rousing bay -- her "melody" which she uses to remind us to hurry the dinner hour along, or to identify the presence of a pesky squirrel in the yard. Otherwise she is relatively quiet. She knows how to use a doggie door but really prefers for someone to go out in the yard with her, since she is still a bit shy on her own. This sweet girl will be a nice addition to a home with another dog or perhaps with older children, or in a household where someone is at home for a part of the day so she won't get too lonely if she is the only dog.
If you are interested in adopting Melody or one of our other dogs, THE FIRST STEP is to complete our adoption questionnaire and then someone will contact you to make plans so you can meet the ones you are interested in. To complete the application, please visit our website here and follow the instructions on adoption: Houston Beagle Rescue Our regular adoption fee is $225; special needs, mixes and senior dogs are $175, and pups 8 months and younger are $275. The fee includes the spay/neuter, the vaccines, flea and heartworm preventative/treatment, a new leash/ collar/ rescue ID tag, microchip, and some training. Some dogs may have had additional vetcare such as orthopedic surgeries, heartworm treatment or other procedures, but these "extras" will not affect their adoption fee. Donations to help with vetcare are always welcomed!
