This is Smeagle! Our foster mom says that what he may lack in looks, he makes up for with personality!!
Poor Smeagle was rescued by a kind woman who saw kids wrapping him up in a sheet and shooting BB's at him. Can you imagine? This woman then contacted our foster mom to see if she would take the little guy and she complied.
Smeagle seems to be a cairn terrier/yorkie mix. He is about a year old and only weighs about 8 pounds. Since he has been in foster care, he has been such a joy and has the greatest little temperament.
Smeagle is new to our rescue and will be evaluated by a vet shortly. We will update his bio as soon as possible.
Thank you for your interest in a rescue dog..they are simply the best!

Please complete an online application – we respond to applications MUCH QUICKER than we do email inquiries which are quite difficult at times given the number that we receive – don’t miss out on this dog – complete an application -http://www.pawsnewengland.com/adoption-form/
An application does not mean you are required to adopt – it just lets us know you are seriously considering this dog for adoption.
PET INSURANCE: Paws New England has joined VCA Animal Hospitals in a program providing new adopters with a certificate for an initial health exam at a VCA Hospital and treatment of certain conditions free of charges for the first 5 days. This is a great program and PAWS is thrilled to be participating in for our adopter. There are also numerous other pet insurance programs available to shelter animals.
QUARANTINE: Paws New England participates and abides by the quarantine rules and regulations set forth in the states of MA, CT, RI.
UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, ALL OF OUR DOGS ARE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF RHODE ISLAND BOARDED EITHER PRIVATE FOSTER HOMES OR TRAINING FACILITIES. If a dog is listed as "local", he /she is at one of our foster homes in New England.
We are often asked, ""Why would you charge ""so much"" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support ALL rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in discounted vet care, and many people will want to adopt it; an older dog with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt him/her. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others.
Rescue Group Info...
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.
Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
All of our dogs are located either in foster homes in New England or Tennessee/Missouri. Please email our volunteers to ask about the specific pet that you are interested in.

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (general health exam, vaccinations, heartworm testing/treatment when necessary)
Puppies under the age of 4 months will not be spayed/neutered prior to adoption upon advice of our veterinarians; small dog breeds may not be altered prior to six months if size prohibitive. Paw New England has a spay/neuter program in place with partner vets or if adopter chooses veterinarian of their own choice, reimbursement of $60.00 provided to adopter.
