Dharma's Story...
Dharma is a 2 year old 30 pound Australian cattle dog mix. Dharma is a loving dog that likes to be around people and plays well with other dogs. She is a sweet heart of a girl, she has been through a lot lately and will need someone to love her and care for her in her new forever home. Dharma settles well into her own space in her foster home and would so love to have her own family to spend time with. She will alert bark to new sounds in the house so can be a good watch dog to have in the home She is great with kids and would love to cuddle up and watch a movie with a child on a rainy day. She needs a house with a fenced yard, is potty trained, good on a leash, loves car rides, good with other dogs, not good with cat, she is a good natured loving dog that will make a great family pet.

If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl please fill out a statement of interest form @ www.alternativehumanesocicety.com (under the ADOPT tab).

Mission Statement: The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats and helping them find and stay in permanent loving homes.

Our goals are:
• To make Whatcom County a community where no healthy animals are euthanized
• To prevent unwanted dog and cat births through spay and neuter assistance
• To cultivate respect and awareness for the needs of animals through education
• To advocate for the humane treatment of dogs and cats in all areas of life

Come Meet Our Pets...
We can be found showing off our loveable dogs at Petco on Bakerview and Guide Meridian in Bellingham on the 1st and 2nd weekend of each month. We also hold an adopt-a-thon the third Saturday of every month at Pet Palace, also on the Guide Meridian in Bellingham. All our showings are between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Come on out and say hi!
Our Adoption Process...
AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 2-3 days, but since many of our volunteers also work at full-time jobs, the entire process can take longer. Although we try our very best we usually will not be able to contact every person who submits a Statement of Interest, we reserve our limited resources for those who look like a good match.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs under 18 months – $170
Dogs over 18 months – $145
Senior dogs (older than 8 years) – $95

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Custer, Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Sumas, Maple Falls, Kendall, Whatcom County, Skagit County

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dharma, a Bellingham Australian Cattle Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Cattle Dog for sale in Bellingham, or seeking a Australian Cattle Dog dog from a breeder in Bellingham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bellingham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bellingham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Cattle Dog breeders who help with Australian Cattle Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bellingham paves the way for another one to be saved.
