About Our Shelter...
The mission of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter is to enhance the quality of life for animals and people through compassion, respect and education.

For nearly 40 years, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter has extended the hand of kindness to neglected and abused companion animals in Cheyenne and Laramie County. Today, we are involved in an ever-expanding effort to accomplish a mission that goes beyond sheltering the homeless and unwanted pet population. Our goal is to find a home for every adoptable companion animal brought to our door. To reach this goal, we must increase the number of pets we place and decrease the number of pets relinquished. We hope to achieve this goal through ongoing community relations programs, such as humane education, offsite adoptions and outreach.

One of our adoption counselors will fill out an Adoption Application for you by asking questions about your home environment, family members and pets in the home to determine if a particular breed or adoptable animal at the Shelter might suit you.

You can take a pet into a “Get Acquainted Room” to spend some time with it or possibly bring it outdoors (usually dogs on a leash). Please listen carefully to our staff for tips and advice as well as recommendations while you are getting acquainted with some of the animals.

If you feel there is a match, you can take your new pet home. Costs vary from $5-$150 depending on the type of pet and the age of the animal.

We also advise that you check with your landlord before adopting a pet, because although you are allowed to return a pet to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, we do hope that the pet is allowed to stay in your home.

Remember, because all of our animals are already neutered before they are adopted, you can't get a nice pet any less expensive AND you can take pride in the fact that you are providing a home for an orphaned animal.

Adoption Prices
It is the highest priority of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter to adopt out healthy and behaviorally sound animals to our caring community. Our adoption fees help to offset the cost of evaluation, housing, feeding and medical care for the thousands of animals that need our help. We do our best to keep our adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for adoptable animals until we can place them in a loving home. Because we are a nonprofit organization, donations subsidize the gap between the cost for care and the adoption fee. It is only through the generosity of our donors that we have the resources to help so many animals.

Our cat adoption fees range from $35 to $65 and our dog adoption fees range from $75 to $150. If any sponsored animals are available, their adoption fese will be noted at the shelter. You'll find that the adoption package at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter is a great value.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Daisey, a Cheyenne Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Cheyenne, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Cheyenne.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Cheyenne already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Cheyenne breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Cheyenne paves the way for another one to be saved.
