Anna Bell's Story...

To adopt you must:

Be at least 21 years of age

Have the consent of all adults in the household

If you rent, have the consent of your landlord to have an indoor pet

Consent to a check of your veterinary reference as well as a home visit

TSDP does NOT adopt to outdoor only homes!

We do not require a fenced yard or any financial documentation.

We give preference to adopters with vet references as opposed to those looking for a first pet.

**January 14, 2013.........Anna Bell's children will be leaving for their adoptive homes and rescues in the next week or so and Anna Bell will be begin her heartworm treatment.  She is available for adoption now but will need to be kept calm during her recovery.  Once she's gone through treatment and recovery she will be just like any other dog, able to run and play all she wants!

Anna Bell was sitting on death row, due to be put to sleep in a couple days.  She was heartworm positive and had puppies due at any second.  Every rescue knows that taking on a pregnant female dog can mean a massive vet bill and when you add in the cost of having to treat for heartworms that is compounded.  Our wonderful rescue Director couldn't get this girl out of her mind though and we agreed we would do what it takes and save her.

She picked her up hours before she was due to be put to sleep and took her to her home.  We spent that weekend expecting puppies at any second as she seemed so huge and so uncomfortable.  When the weekend was over and we still didn't have puppies we took her to the vet to make sure all was well.  He found her dilated but not in labor so he gave her some medication to help move things along.  Still nothing.  What we dreaded; a C-section.

Anna Bell had nine gorgeous little puppies.  With an OR stocked full of staff and vlounteers each puppy was removed one at a time and handed off to get them breathing and moving around.  It took HOURS, but they all did survive!  Sadly, in the first two weeks, her smallest two puppies passed away.  The other seven are now 3 weeks old (as of the first week of December 2012) and are thriving.  We believe they are mixed with possibly a mastiff due to their enormous size already.

With the puppies safely growing and healthy, our next goal is to get Anna Bell ready for a forever home.  She is currently eating a home made special diet to keep her as healthy as possible and she gets supplements daily.  In the next three to five weeks when she weans her puppies, we'll up her food and supplements even more to make sure she could not be any healthier.  Once the puppies have been weaned for a week she will have her first heartworm treatment.  When she has fully recovered from that she will be spayed and retested for heartworm.  Once it is negative she will be ready for her forever home.  We are estimating early to mid February, 2013.  If a local adopter is found and approved she can go to her home when the puppies are weaned and go through her treatment and recovery in her new home.

Anna Bell is fully housebroken and is not destructive in any way.  She's quiet and wonderful with all other animals including livestock.  She's incredibly intelligent and when she finishes her meal if she's still hungry she gets her foster momma and makes her follow her back so she can show her she's eaten it all and wants more.  This girl is SO SMART!!  She's shorter than an average Walker which makes us believe she is a mix of some kind.  Regardless of lineage, this sweet girl is beyond amazing!!
