Benson's Story...

We are guessing that Benson is couple of years old. We don’t know how Benson spent the first years of his life, but we know that they were not very good. He was definitely neglected and perhaps abused. He was taken to the Yuma Humane Society as a stray and he looked like a mass of matted fur. You couldn’t see his eyes or mouth. He didn’t get this way in a day, a week or even a month. We wonder if he ever had a hair-cut before he was rescued. It was very sad. When he was first rescued, he was afraid of everyone and everything. It took a few months for him to learn to trust, and he is still quite fearful of new people. He trusts his foster mom to the point that with her he acts as normal as a dog can be. He loves to lay on the sofa and be petted and he gives her kisses non-stop. He is one grateful dog and he sure does show his gratitude. He anxiously comes with tail wagging when he is called and he is housebroken. He also knows how to use a doggie door. He is a happy boy and he follows his foster mom everywhere. He even walks nicely on a leash with her. Benson does need a quiet and patient home. He seems to develop a close bond to one person and seems to do better with women. Benson does take treats from his foster dad and is doing a little better with him, but he’s definitely is a momma’s boy. Benson also needs a secure home and yard. One without a lot of traffic would be best as if he were to dash out of the door, catching him would not be an easy task and this could be tragic. Once you earn his trust, he will be your best and most loyal friend forever. Once you earn that first kiss, you are in for more love than you can imagine. But, he will not give his trust in a few days. It could take a week or a month or perhaps a little longer. It took him a couple of months to develop this bond with his foster mom. We hope that he will take some of the trust that he has learned with him and that he will adjust quicker in his forever home. Yes, Benson is a couple of years old, but his life began in August 2012. He has a lot of years to go and a lot of love to give. If you have a lot patience and even more love to give to this little guy, perhaps Benson is the right best friend for you. If you think that this person could be you, please email for more information.

About our Adoption Process: There is no commitment by submitting the application - it just helps us determine if the pet you are interested in will be a good match for you. Next is a meet and greet at one of our adoption events - typically held on Saturdays at the Petsmart in Chandler, AZ (Ray Rd & I-10). Not every pet is at every event so please contact us first to find out when and where you can meet the pet you are interested in. If there are other dogs in your household, we suggest bringing them to ensure everyone gets along. The standard adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $140 (cash or check) which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations, microchip and collar/tags.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Benson, a Phoenix Lhasa Apso dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Lhasa Apso for sale in Phoenix, or seeking a Lhasa Apso dog from a breeder in Phoenix.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Phoenix already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Phoenix breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Lhasa Apso breeders who help with Lhasa Apso rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Phoenix paves the way for another one to be saved.
