My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

April 2013 update. We are working with Maverick's vet to find the exact medication dose that keeps his symptoms of lupus at bay - we're getting there! He is just the sweetest! He came to an adoption event and was wonderful with dogs, kids and adults. He even met some baby chicks and was fine with them! Maverick is very intent on his tennis ball. He goes nuts over the ball, will fetch or just chew it like crazy. When he is on the steroid meds he does so well - active and willing to play. He loves going for walks and car rides. He is a total lovebug!

March 2013 update! Maverick's foster mom calls him Max because, if you can believe it, she already adopted a Lucky Pup named Maverick! She tells us "Maverick/Max is such a sweet boy! He wants to be right by your side always. He follows us from room and room inside, laying down when he sees that you've settled somewhere. Outside he does the same thing, just follows you never going far from your side. He loves to go for car rides, often getting excited when he sees you getting your coat on.

He loves to chew on (and tear apart) tennis balls, and he'll chase them if you toss them for him.

He is doing GREAT on his new meds but it makes him hungry and thirsty so he is a little bit of a counter surfer but we are working on that. He prefers to have small amounts of food through out the day. He'll actually go to the food bin and bump it with his nose to tell us that he wants to eat.

Other then the counter surfing he's very well behaved. He's not destructive (except to tennis balls) he doesn't mess in the house and he doesn't jump up on people. He knows sit, lay down and give paw. He doesn't actually like his paws touched, but he's not snarky about it or anything. If you keep touching his paws he'll just get up and walk away.

I think he would do great in almost any type of home. Kids, dogs, cats.....he seems fine with everything. I don't think that he would do as well in a home where people were away most of the day, especially if there were no dog friends. I think he would be fine as an "only" or with canine and feline buddies

He's an all around great dog!"

Feb 2013 update: Maverick is the sweetest boy and loves the 3 dogs and cat in his foster home, as well as the humans! When Maverick arrived his foster mom noticed some medical symptoms and after a round of testing our wonderful vet diagnosed him with lupus, an autoimmune disorder that can be a little scary. Because it was caught at an early stage Maverick has a good prognosis. He will need medicine probably for life, and a home that understands his needs. If you would like to donate towards Maverick's care, you may do so at paypal using the email luckypuprescue@yahoo.com. If you are interested in adoption or more information on Maverick please contact us at the same email address.

You will not find a sweeter, more loving boy anywhere. Maverick loves playing in the snow with his foster siblings, and he smiles at you when he thinks you are A-OK.

Maverick is a fun-loving 5 year old Labrador Retriever/Border Collie mix. He is a well-mannered dog who enjoys being close by your side on daily walks. He has a great time running and playing with his buddies in the shelter yard with our rescue partners. Maverick has a gentle, good-natured personality and is very sweet. He is very affectionate and loves being petted. He does well with all humans and also gets along with other dogs. Maverick was recently bit by another dog while just trying to make friends. He was moved to a foster home and is loving life there with his canine friends.

To apply to adopt this dog, please visit our website to access our application, www.luckypuprescue.org.

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue!
