You know that happy go lucky Lab personality that everyone loves? Well this girl has it! Lexi initially was brought to a high kill animal shelter as a stray. We can't believe someone didn't claim her, she's perfect! She's very affectionate and likes to think she's a lap dog :). She's very bright and in the short time being at the rescue she already walks perfect on her leash and has learned sit and shake. Lexi is still really young, we think under a year old, so she really enjoys her time outside and chasing her ball (although she hasn't quite got the bringing the ball back part down). The Empty Shelter Project is a small foster-based animal rescue located in Northern Virginia. We believe that no animal should ever have to deal with the abandonment of being left at an animal shelter, and certainly no animal should ever be euthanized merely because of the lack of space. Every animal shelter should be an empty one. We take in many animals from shelters in danger of being put to sleep and animals on their way to animal shelters.

So you've picked out the perfect pet..what do you do next?
1. Fill out an application - our application is available on our website at www.espnova.com. Click the procedures tab at the top of the page and you can download the application. This is just to allow us to make sure that the pet you're interested in is a good match for your lifestyle and needs. For example, we do not want to place an elderly Chihuahua with someone looking for a running partner.
2. Meet and Greet - After your application gets the o.k. we like to bring the furry friend you're interested in over to your place so you both can get to know each other. We take pride in the fact that very few animals are returned after adoption. Adoption is a big deal so we run a foster-to-adopt program where you can foster the pet you're interested in for a week before making the final decision.
3. Adopt! if everything goes well and you've found the right match, you just simply sign our adoption contract and ride off into the sunset.
