Dolly's Story...
Dolly is an absolutely adorable, solid black 11 week old short haired kitten born with a congenital defect affecting both of her eyes. One eye was removed while she was at Animal Control, and the other eye was removed at our vets after we learned it could not be saved. Originally, Dolly tested positive for Feline Leukemia, but as of December 19th, she defied the odds and her subsequent retests came back NEGATIVE!!

This sweet baby is going to make a GREAT pet for some lucky family. She is completely unaware of her 'disability' and acts like any other 11 week old kitten. Dolly has zero issues with finding her litter box, climbing up on the couch for a snooze, playing with toys, and she can go up the stairs like a champ (she is still working on going down them though).

Dolly is being fostered with two little boys who she is GREAT with. They are not always the most gentle of children, and she takes it all in stride. She is not fearful or reactive toward them, however, it would be ideal to have her go to a home where any children would understand that she is unable to see them. Dolly is also being fostered with two large dogs, and while she keeps a comfortable distance from them and doesn't seek out their companionship, she doesn't seem to be afraid of them either.

Dolly's best friend is a sweet kitty named Lucy-June, who affectionately goes by "Juice." The two have bonded together, and Dolly relies on Lucy-June to tell her when she's playing to rough, or about to get hurt. The two love to nap, play and bathe together. We'd love to see them in a forever home together.

Because Dolly is blind, she uses her mouth as another sense. For this reason, she is what we call a "chewer". She doesn't bite, but will use her mouth to feel out where you are, and figure out what is what.

About Our Rescue Group...
Our Purpose:
St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines is a non-profit foster-based cat rescue in Addison, IL. Established in late 2010, St. Sophia’s strives to be the best in temporary care for cats in transition. What does this mean? It means that the cats in our care aren’t intended to stay in our care. Our hope is a forever home for every adoptable cat — no more homeless cats!

Our Cats:
We work with local Trap-Neuter-Return organizations. Trap-Neuter-Return (also known as TNR) is a method of humanely trapping unaltered feral cats, neutering them, and releasing them back to the same environment where they were originally found. TNR is promoted by proponents as a humane and more effective alternative for managing and reducing feral cat populations (compared to euthanasia).

While most cats trapped are completely feral (wild, without any domestic socialization), some cats (often kittens, or even adults that have been well cared-for outdoors) can and have become socialized and adoptable. St. Sophia evaluates each cat in TNR programs individually in order to determine what the best forever home would be (whether their home is best outdoors in the wild, or whether they are best suited to an indoor family lifestyle). Each cat is different in many ways, and St. Sophia’s prides itself on being able to determine what’s best for each cat on a one-on-one basis.

Our People:
The Board Members of St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines have over 15 years of service in feline welfare combined. They come from various backgrounds including marketing, publishing, business, web-design, librarianship, and more.
We are all volunteer-run and are always looking for people to help!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Dolly, a Addison Domestic Shorthair kitten was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Addison, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair kitten from a breeder in Addison.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Addison already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Addison breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Addison paves the way for another one to be saved.
