This little sweetheart is Steve, a chihuahua that is just over a year old and would love a great home to call his own. Steve came to us with several of his friends from Virginia when they were removed from a hoarding situation. Little Stevie was a bit shy at first, but he has learned to trust people and has made lots of new friends. Steve is such a sweet little guy. He walks very well on a leash and is a perfect little gentleman. Steve gets along well with other dogs and just loves everyone he meets once he gets to know them. He would love a nice, quiet home to spend his life in, with a family that loves him and will care for him forever. 12/23/12 File#22175

The Associated Humane Societies, founded in 1906, is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey. We comprise three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls . Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park Zoo. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park Zoo is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
The Society is a not for profit, 501 (c) 3 organization, and Popcorn Park is also a federally licensed zoo. The Society prides itself on our devotion to the thousands of animals that we care for annually and the chance for a better life we offer them. Our animal shelter is open to the public Monday through Friday from 12pm to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
We require a completed adoption application which can be obtained at our facility, or from our website: www.ahscares.org. We also require proof of home ownership if you own, or a copy of a lease stating that pets are allowed with no restrictions if you rent. We require vet records for any pets owned in the last five years as well. Our adoption fees vary based on age, breed, etc. Please call our facility for exact fee 609-693-1900.
We are the primary Animal Control for Barnegat, Waretown, West Creek, Surf City. We take in animals in need from all of the country.
