Ben is an amazing Chocolate Lab mix. Straight From The Streets Animal Rescue accepted Ben into our foster program late in 2011. He was extremely shy and had no self confidence. Ben was adopted with his brother as a 6 week old puppy. He was part of an accidental litter and a young woman decided to take 2. Ben's sibling was later given to a family member and Ben remained with his adopted family. Ben was not neutered and marked in the house. So his family put him in the backyard and that is where he remained for the next 2 years of his life. He had very little human interaction, he did have another dog as a friend, but the other dog got to go inside and Ben was forced to stay outside. This wreaked poor Ben's self esteem and confidence. When Straight From The Streets Animal Rescue first heard about Ben's situation we extended an offer to get him neutered at no cost to the family so that the marking would stop and he could join their other dog inside. After continued efforts to get him neutered the family decided to allow this. Ben was brought to a friends house and it was then that I got a look at him for the first time. He was 10 lbs too skinny and walked with his belly scrapping the floor because he was so nervous. He also had some skin issues which cleared up as soon as he became an indoor/outdoor dog. Ben was also limping a little and after I mentioned that Ben needed some medical care the family decided to give him to me and I gladly accepted!!! Ben was originally named something different but we felt Ben needed a fresh start and the name Ben fit him perfectly! Ben joined his foster pack of dogs and with time and patience he began to come out of his shell! He had been a completely outside dog in his prior situation and needed to learn some basic house manners in addition to building up his self esteem. Ben is now super friendly and laid back. He enjoys playing with other dogs and has no problem taking a backseat and allowing other dogs to be the alpha. He is friends with dogs as small as Chihuahua's and big as beefy Pit Bulls and can play well with dogs of all sizes! He loves all people and animals and would make a great companion for just about anyone. He loves to be right by your side or chill in his crate. He is hands down the most laid back and mellow dog Straight From The Streets Animal Rescue has ever had the joy of helping! He is neutered, current on his vaccines and is also microchipped. He is heartworm negative and is currently taking monthly heartworm prevention. Ben is a big love bug and a true example of "man's best friend"! Won't you come and meet him?
