Meet Maggie!
Maggie came to me like most of my dogs do, straight from the streets! I was in Houston, TX for my birthday and as I was leaving town I noticed a small dog sitting in the middle of some train tracks that were being built. There were 2 lanes of traffic on either side of the tracks and there she sat right smack dab in the middle of the tracks.
I quickly threw on my hazards and jumped out to get her! She was a little feisty and gave chase as we circled and circled and circled my car! Anyone that knows me will tell you I am more scared of little dogs then any big old pit bull! This little dog would roll on her back and try to nip at me everytime I would get close enough to get to her.
Plan B - I grabbed a shirt from my car and tossed it over her and scooped her up in it.
I get her in the car with me and we take off alleviating the line of cars that had built up behind me, meanwhile no one offered to help! Lame!
So off we go to the nearest gas station to get a good look at her. She smells up the car quite quickly and when we pull over at the gas station I understand why she is so smelly!
She has long hair and it has formed into dreads in a lot of areas just from lack of care. And the hair around her butt has formed dreads so bad she was unable to push poop past it! Poor dog she is just covered in poop all around her butt :(
I clean her up as best I can and make my drive to my hotel. Once settled I cut the dreads out of her hair, clean her up in the bath tub and towel dry her off. She immediately turned into a completely different dog! No more grumpy, fearfulness, she knew I had helped her feel better and she was super happy!
She jumped on the bed in the hotel and ran circles around the room!
She was so full of joy! It was then that she became my Maggie! It seemed to fit her scruffy yet dainty look and she was very sweet and girly, so Maggie was perfect!
I put an ad on Craigslist and checked that site daily, also placed a call to the local animal shelters and sent them her pictures. But no one every called or e-mailed, it appeared Maggie was just another dog left on the streets to fend for herself.
So I brought her home with me and she met my pack of dogs and was quickly accepted and joined in with all the silly games the dogs play.
Maggie was spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for hw's and microchipped. She loves cats, kids and other dogs and she is now just waiting for a lap to snuggle in and a family to call her own!
