My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adorable Manrico was rescued from a crowded shelter, where he arrived as a stray. The shelter managed to find his owner, but she refused to pay the fee to reclaim him. It was Manrico's lucky day! He'd been running loose in the neighborhood for months, and it was a miracle that he hadn't been run over by a car! The kind shelter staff called BARK to rescue him, and now he's ready for his forever home.

Manrico is a German Spitz, a breed closely related to the Keeshond. At 12 inches and about 15 pounds, he looks very much like a small version of a Keeshond! Where a Keeshond is cream colored, he has tawny, golden tones. He's quite beautiful, with a full coat and a bright, foxy expression.

Manrico is about a year old, and is still somewhat puppy-like in his behavior. He has a happy, lively personality, and loves to go out on long walks or for rides in the car. He is quite content to be in a crate. He does not appear to be overly barky, though he will talk a bit when he is very happy.

An endearing trait when he wants attention is to sit on his haunches, or stand on his hind legs, put his front paws together, and paw the air. "He looks like a prairie dog!" one visitor exclaimed. (It's so cute, we're trying to get a photo!)

In his foster home, when the Christmas tree was being dismantled, Manrico was put on the sofa to watch. He stayed there for six hours, only occasionally moving to investigate a bit of tissue paper that drifted his way. (Please note: at other times, Manrico is lively and full of energy - if you're looking for a sedate couch potato, he's not the dog for you!)

Manrico gets along well with other dogs and with people, and generally he likes to stay close by. His tail is forever wagging. Since coming to foster care just a short time ago, he has learned to walk on a leash and go up and down stairs. He can learn a great deal more, as he is so people oriented. He comes to the call of his name. Manrico is a special little dog indeed!
