Lenny is an ADORABLE 7-month-old happy LOW RIDER who is most likely a mix of Australian Shepherd, and a smaller, very low dog such as a Dachshund or even a Corgi. He is a very friendly, well mannered, sweet and gentle dog, who still shows signs of being an insecure puppy, but who is becoming more and more confident as he is exposed to various social situations. He weighs about 20 lbs., may grow slightly larger, but not by much. Lenny is fantastic with all dogs, and likes to follow along with the pack. He likes to be with his people and get belly rubs, but he also goes off in the yard to do his own thing like chew on a rawhide or catch some sun. He also seems to enjoy toys. Lenny is much more laid back than other Aussie Shepherd types; I would call him a low to moderate energy dog.
Lenny is very gentle and would probably do well with kids in that he shows no aggressive temperament; also, he is a great snuggler. But running around and playing with kids, in the over-the-top, fun way that kids sometimes play – he’s not quite ready for that yet. Lenny lives in a foster home where there are two other dogs; he learns from following their lead and seems most comfortable when there is another dog in the home. He quickly picked up the dog door to go potty outside, but potty training would need to be reinforced in his new environment. He is crate-trained, and sleeps quietly in his crate throughout the night.
Lenny is an inherently submissive dog, who is easy-going, and just goes with the flow. He needs an owner who will be patient with him and show him all the good things in life. For example, Lenny resists walking on the leash. Even with a harness, if there is a leash involved, Lenny just goes flat. We believe that he can learn with lots of treats and praise and practice, but for now, no apartments please, as apartment style living requires several potty walks daily. Lenny’s best fit is a home with another dog to be his friend and mentor, and with a yard where Lenny has free outdoor access, such as a doggie door, or open door, to go potty at will. He really is a great dog to have as a second dog, as he is so good natured, sweet, quiet, and low-keyed.
Lenny is neutered, de-wormed, vaccinated including rabies, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Lenny, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail.
