About me
My official name is Buster, but my guardian calls me Cody. I’m rather a unique looking guy, almost boxer like, which I guess comes from my unique heritage of Boston/Cocker/Pug. My hair is short, and I need daily brushing as otherwise I’ll shed. I just love my coat being brushed, bathing is a pleasure, and I don’t mind having my nails done regularly. I’m a loving boy who wants nothing more than to be near my guardian. My guardian says I’m an interactive dog, who loves to talk. Wooohoooweeeewww. Did I mention that I am smart?
I need a fair bit of exercise, as I am still quite puppy like and would like to keep my trim figure. Some of my favourite treats are broccoli stems and blueberries.
I would love a home in the country with lots of room to run in a secured area. My ideal family would have no other pets, as I don’t always like other dogs. Cats, well they’re just too much fun to chase. I need a benevolent leader who will help me to learn how to be a secure, balanced dog. Are you that person?
And now a few words from my foster mom:
Cody originally came to LOYAL as an owner surrender after having nipped a child. The circumstances surrounding the nip are unclear, however the family knew that Buster was a good dog, just not well suited to them. Cody was in foster care for a time, evidenced no negative behaviour and was subsequently adopted. For the first 9 months with his adopter, the only negative behaviour that came to light was separation anxiety. With some work, Cody became comfortable being alone at home in a crate, however he still is not comfortable being separated from his guardian outside of the home.
After 9 months with his guardian, he started to become territorial and possessive of things. He had an argument with another dog who was trying to take a stick, and inadvertently bit his guardian when she tried to separate the dogs. For his own safety, he is now muzzled when in the company of other dogs.
Cody’s change in behaviour is a bit of a mystery. Since that initial stick incident, and although he loves to socialise with other dogs in the dog park, he will tend to get overexcited which results in an argument. Any dog, male/female, large/small, altered or unaltered that could become the target. We believe that Cody needs to learn to better read canine social cues, as well as how to play appropriately. This can be achieved through a more structured lifestyle that would include solid obedience training that results in instant recall irrespective of the environment, and a job to do, like agility or flyball.
Cody can be reactive towards strangers. He will lunge and bark on lead, but once told to settle and that things are OK, he calms down.
Given his current issues, and although he is well loved, Cody must go to a home that “speaks dog” fluently and will work to rehabilitate his currently undesirable behaviours in a disciplined, constructive, benevolent way. He really is a sweet boy who has a ton of love to give, is a lot of fun to be with and deserves a forever home of his own.

LOYAL Rescue is a foster based rescue with homes located throughout the province and in the United States. We do not operate a shelter, thus do not have viewing hours. Each pet is in a private home. In order to adopt this pet, please visit our website www.loyalrescue.com and fill in our online application. If you have any questions, please email us by clicking here.
Once you submit the online adoption application, we will arrange for a volunteer to contact you to conduct the telephone interview. The same volunteer will also contact your veterinarian and personal references. If the interview and references go well, a home visit will be booked. Should you be the successful applicant for this pet, you are then welcome to come and meet the dog. You are not obligated to adopt if the fit is not correct, however we must go through this process prior to you meeting the dog.
LOYAL Rescue is 100% volunteer run.
Please read the FAQ section of the LOYAL website, prior to applying to adopt from us.

Rescue Group Info...
Although LOYAL Rescue has only been around since 2006, members of LOYAL Rescue have 40+ years of rescue involvement. Through our combined love and dedication to the dogs, we have come together to do what we can to save a life.
All adoptions REQUIRE an application to be filled out. There is an online application at www.loyalrescue.com. Once you complete the application, we will call you to answer any of your questions and confirm details before proceeding. We then call your vet for a reference, and call each of the three references you list on your application. If all goes well, we visit your home to confirm this is the best possible home for the dog you are applying to adopt. If you are approved, you then fill out a contract, pay an adoption fee (between $300-$400) and adopt the dog. ALL DOGS are up to date on shots, spayed/neutered (unless too old, unhealthy or too young to do), dewormed, defleaed and health checked before going to their new home.
We are located in Peterborough, Ontario and serve this area as well as the Kawartha's, across Ontario and even into the Norther States. YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR PET THOUGH as we DO NOT SHIP.
