My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This tiny little beauty (she only weighs 3 pounds!) was dropped off at a shelter by a breeder who couldn't sell her due to a problem with her eye (Entropion). She was immediately snapped up by Midwest BREW and put in a foster home. The vet has said that her eyelid rolls in instead of out and that is an easy fix, however, that eye is also not producing any tears and that is a bigger problem. She has been scheduled to be seen by an eye specialist to help her get on the road to recovery.

Donations are greatly appreciated to help with her medical treatment.

***UPDATE***

Gemma continues to grow and thrive and she's up to 8 pounds now. She is a sweet and affectionate puppy that loves to lay in your lap and snuggle up for kisses. She has been to the eye specialist several times and is on a regiment of eye drops to stimulate her eye to produce tears on its own. Hopefully this will work, but if not she will need a family dedicated to giving her the drops she needs on a daily basis to keep her eye moist for the rest of her life. The good news is that the specialist feels that she will outgrow the Entropion as it is a very mild case and will not need surgery to correct this issue. She is on course to be available for adoption January 10th. Due to her tiny size she will not be spayed until she is spoken for by a family committed to adopting her.

**UPDATE 1/21/13**

They're working!! They're working!! The eyedrops that my foster family have been patiently putting in for months have stimulated my eye to start producing tears on its own! Foster mom says it's bittersweet because now it should be easier for me to find my forever home since the costs for my care will start to go down, but she is going to miss me something fierce. I'm the best at keeping her lap warm at night and the sweet kisses I give her after I get my drops are the best.

She says I should mention that I keep my crate nice and clean and don't make any noise when it's time to stay there. I wish I could say I was totally housebroken but I'm only at about 95%. I don't have an accident everyday, but often enough that I can't promise it won't happen.

I love people of all shapes and sizes but I can be a jumper so I shouldn't go to a home with very young children. However, I am an excellent listener and settle down pretty quickly so she thinks I will be a nice medium energy dog when I'm fully grown. Oh, and I'm pretty nervous around large dogs so if you have medium or small size dogs that would be best. If you don't have any dogs that's OK too, I'm really good at entertaining myself and love to roll around on the floor and play with my toys when everyone else is busy.

If you have any questions or would like more info about my care, give BREW a call.
