Stanley was initially pulled by our rescue group from a high-kill shelter. According to staff, he was picked up from animal control as part of an abandonment case. Stanley was found in a small crate severely matted and covered in urine and feces. When we saw him in the shelter, we immediately knew the little guy needed some serious help. And once we got to meet his bubbly personality despite his condition, we knew he was going to be another ESP baby. From the shelter he went straight to the groomers where we discovered his hair has been acting like a sponge to his urine, his legs were very raw and irritated from it sitting on them. We shaved the little guy down and every since he's been happy as can be!
Stanley is estimated to be around 3 years of age. He's pretty active and loves to play with his toys. He enjoys playing fetch and has everyone laughing when he squeezes a tennis ball that appears to be bigger than his head into his mouth to proudly carry around. Stanley strives for human attention and loves to climb up in your lap and give you kisses and also never turns down a good belly rub. He's quite the character, very curious but not in the trouble making kind of way.
Stanley needs a foster home but also would love a permanent place to stay with a family that can show him what life is all about.

The Empty Shelter Project is a small foster-based animal rescue located in Northern Virginia. We believe that no animal should ever have to deal with the abandonment of being left at an animal shelter, and certainly no animal should ever be euthanized merely because of the lack of space. Every animal shelter should be an empty one. We take in many animals from shelters in danger of being put to sleep and animals on their way to animal shelters.

1. Fill out an application - our application is available on our website at www.espnova.com. Click the procedures tab at the top of the page and you can download the application. This is just to allow us to make sure that the pet you're interested in is a good match for your lifestyle and needs. For example, we do not want to place an elderly Chihuahua with someone looking for a running partner.
2. Meet and Greet - After your application gets the o.k. we like to bring the furry friend you're interested in over to your place so you both can get to know each other. We take pride in the fact that very few animals are returned after adoption. Adoption is a big deal so we run a foster-to-adopt program where you can foster the pet you're interested in for a week before making the final decision.
3. Adopt! if everything goes well and you've found the right match, you just simply sign our adoption contract and ride off into the sunset.
