My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There is a reason American Bulldog people swear by their breed- because what incredible dogs they are! That's what everyone who meets Lenny says. The first thing to catch your eye is that big smiling face with those huge, happy jowls and grinning eyes. His head is about the size of a basketball and is so soft and wonderful to pet- and he would it love if you did! He loves to be with his people and to be touched and loved on. He wants nothing more than to curl up next to you on the couch, snuggle with you in bed, or go for a car ride to explore new places! He is a gentle giant at 85lbs and is still filling out. He should top out at around 90-100lbs.

Lenny is wonderful with people of all ages, and is respectful upon meeting new people. He does not jump or get overly excited- just greets them politely and asks to be petted if they're comfortable with him. He is a perfect gentleman! He loves children and other dogs. He has been introduced to dog-safe cats and was thrilled to meet them- he seemed to think that they were dogs and would want to play with him! With a little training he could co-exist peacefully with cats- right now he just thinks they're small, funny looking dogs.

It was discovered that Lenny has hip dysplasia after noticing his odd gait- he gives the impression of tripping or stumbling slightly with his back legs, like he's a little uncoordinated. While hip dysplasia is nothing to sneeze at, it doesn't get Lenny down and can be effectively managed with exercise and suppliments, and treated with pain meds if he overdoes it. He loves to chase a ball and play with other dogs, and doesn't let it slow him down in the least! Excercise is VITAL for a dog with hip dysplasia- for this reason, we will only adopt him out to someone who can absolutely commit to walking him daily, whether outside or on a treadmill. Without the muscle tone in his back end, he will be in pain and could lose his ability to walk. It's that simple- he needs exercise!

It would be best if he were in a home with dogs smaller than him or older dogs that won't overpower him due to his weak hind end. If another dog bowls him over or pins him, it can cause him pain. For the same reason, we recommend a home with children over the age of 6 or 7, or children that are very respectful of dogs. A child could cause him pain him by falling or climbing on him.

If you are dedicated to providing Lenny with the home he needs, he would love to devote his life and all the love he can give to you. He has so much love to give!
