My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult, we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Red is an happy, good natured lab/hound mix who is looking for a new home after being rescued from an impound. Red is about 5 years old and is a taller, slim boy who weighs 62 pounds. For a dog this size, he has great indoor manners and doesn't take up a lot of space. He enjoys all ages of people and is good with kids of most ages--he enjoyed the visiting toddler at his foster home. Red greets everyone with a smile and he always looks forward to going for a walk or exploring out in the fenced in back yard. But he is also content to curl up near his favorite people and enjoy some quiet time too. This is really a ready made family dog who will be your good buddy, go for walks with you and curl up while you watch TV or read the paper. Red is house trained and crate trained but does not require crating as he is well behaved indoors. Red is with a 501c3 rescue. His adoption fee is $200 and covers his neuter, heartworm test and pill, shots, worming, and his HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE FOR ALL APPLICANTS. If you do not meet the criteria for this dog, PLEASE do not apply. Due to the volume of emails we receive, we do not answer those in which the applicant doesn’t match the listed criteria.

• Homeowners: Required
• Status of adopter: Adult
• Previous dog owning experience: Preferred
• Age of children: Children old enough to be respectful
• Another dog in the home: Not required but gets along well with dogs
• Cat(s) in the home: Safe with dog-saavy cats, will chase if they run
• Fenced yard: REQUIRED for all dogs with hound noses
• Time alone on work days: Can be alone for a work day
