Gabe is a three year old Basset/Shepherd mix weighing in at forty-two pounds. Gabe has a rather unique look to him with totally short basset legs and a long basset body with a shepherd head and coloring. He loves bones, treats, walks and belly-rubs. He does well in the car, after he is told he can't sit on your lap. And he tolerates grooming well.
Gabe loves to spend his time snuggling up with his person but can also be independent once he feels safe in his surroundings. He is not food aggressive and does well with free-feeding. Gabe likes to play with other dogs and he does well with children. Gabe has been housetrained; he will go to the door and whine to let you know he needs to go out. He is also crate trained, he will even sometimes go to his crate when he is sleepy. Gabe is a good listener who aims to please. He is so smart, when told to 'go to crate,” he will do just that! He also knows the command “sit” and is working on “off” and “come.” Gabe is also in the process of being leash-trained and though he still pulls a little, he really does very well. Attention and food are great motivators for him. Gabe is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.
Gabe can be shy when he first meets someone but once he feels comfortable, he relaxes and becomes a faithful and loyal companion. Gabe wants a family to call his own; to be part of a family unit where he can always feel safe, relaxed and loved. We are a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. We work with foster homes to help find homes for pets in need. We coordinate with other shelters and rescue groups to help spread the word about homeless pets on a regular basis. Our philosophy is that each pet deserves a loving home and a long, healthy, happy life. We do everything in our power to ensure pets receive the training, veterinary care, and loving attention needed in order to provide a "happy ending" for everyone! We operate a volunteer-run thrift store in Breckenridge, Colorado to help fund our operations so we can help as many pets as possible. "For Pets' Sake" is located at 203 N. We ask potential adopters to fill out our adoption application form on our website online, or we can email one directly. Once the application is reviewed and approved, we arrange to do a quick home visit. Once the home visit has been approved, an adoption agreement needs to be filled out online at www.animalrescueoftherockies.org
