Huck's Story...
Huck is a mild mannered, polite, sweetheart of a dog. He is a two year old Catahoula hound mix. He has a really laid back personality and a very nice, easy going vibe about him. He seems to interact well with cats and is gentle with children of all ages. Huck rides well in a car, sits patiently for his brushing, and even enjoys his bath. Huck’s cheerful and playful demeanor will be a welcome addition to any home. He will be an easy dog to love and an easy dog to care for. He is a very manageable 40 pounds and obeys very willingly. Huck will be a phenomenal pet for some lucky adopter!

Huck is an inside dog and is housebroken. He is not a chewer and can be kept in the house without being crated. He can lounge and sleep for hours only because he is getting enough exercise by playing and running with other dogs. Huck’s adopter must have a large yard for play and a solid plan in place for a means to exercise him. About Our Shelter...
Friends of Citrus County Animal Services (FOCCAS) was formed by a team of concerned citizens who are dedicated to advocating animal welfare, community involvement and humane education. Our mission is to build awareness in the community about the shelter, increase the adopt-ability of shelter animals, highlight our adoptable pets, work to increase pet adoptions and foster alliances with rescues.

FOCCAS is a registered charity in the State of FL and has 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. We have no paid employees or directors. We are 100% volunteer-based. All donations are used to help the animals. Our volunteers provide their own transportation for themselves and shelter pets to adoption events, veterinary care, and rescue groups. Often our pets require extensive medical care for conditions or injuries that are beyond the scope of shelter medicine. Surgeries and x-rays are the most common. We rely entirely on donations and fundraising efforts.

Citrus County Animal Services is the only open-door shelter in Citrus County that takes "all comers". No matter what condition the animal is in that comes through the door - surrendered, found, abandoned - the shelter will try and save the animal and find him/her a loving, permanent home.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Huck, a Inverness Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Inverness, or seeking a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Inverness.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Inverness already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Inverness breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Catahoula Leopard Dog/Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Inverness paves the way for another one to be saved.
