Faustina's Story...
Faustina is a shy, skittish girl who seems to be quite frightened of human interaction. We have worked hard to try and make Faustina comfortable here, and she does approach us for treats, but is very weary of contact outside of food socialization. Socializing our shy cats is an ongoing project, and our volunteers and staff continue to help kitties like Faustina overcome their fears. She is a very, very cat friendly girl, so we think she would thrive best in a home with another buddy to help her feel comfortable. Using a wand toy for play therapy is another tool to use, as well as wand-petting to help Faustina become more accustomed to touch would also be helpful when visiting her. This may encourage Faustina to become fond of human contact. She would certainly do much better in her own home where she could receive one-on-one attention rather than a shelter.

About Our Shelter...
Tree House is a humane organization that promotes the inherent value of every animal and strives to educate the public about proper and responsible animal care, with a focus on the care and placement of stray cats with special physical and emotional needs. We are committed to finding every healthy and treatable animal a home.

Tree House was founded in 1971 and since that time we have expanded and enhanced our programs and services to become the largest, no-kill, cageless shelter for sick, injured, abused and neglected cats in the Chicagoland area. To date we have found homes for nearly 14,000 cats. In addition to our focus on the rehabilitation and adoption of stray cats, we offer many other valuable programs and services, including our Free Spay/Neuter Program, Pet Loss Grief Support Group, Humane Investigations Team, Youth Volunteer Program, Animal-Assisted Therapy, Behavior Hotline, Pet Food Pantry, and Education Outreach Program.

Our Adoption Process...
At Tree House, trained adoption counselors interview prospective adopters to understand their needs, and then adopters are escorted to the Adoption Floor to choose their future friend. Adopters are encouraged to take as much time as they need to find a cat. All adoption applications stay on file for three months so please don't feel that you need to rush to choose a companion cat right away.

Your adoption fee of $85 covers the cost of your cat's care at Tree House including: spay or neuter, deworming, flea treatment, FIV and FeLV testing, AVID microchip, veterinary examination, and all necessary vaccinations. We also give a 30-day health guarantee on all of our adoptions.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS

* A photo I.D.
* A second I.D. with current address and phone number (we recommend a phone bill).
* If you rent, we need your landlord's name and phone number, or a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have cats.
* All children under 12 in the household are required to be present for the entire adoption process.
