Facts about Shimmy

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Brown Tabby
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Shimmy is a curious, social, and complex girl. She received her name after Tree House came to her rescue when a chase forced her to shimmy up a telephone pole! Shimmy really loves human attention, but on her own terms. Her perfect adopter would be willing to take the time to learn Shimmy’s likes and dislikes. She is quite talkative and loves having the cute orange triangle on her forehead scratched. Shimmy is excellent at communicating through body language, so it’s easy to tell when she’s had enough love for one sitting. She gets quite excited for playtime and especially loves paper tunnels! Shimmy is often upset by other cats, and therefore has her own private office at the shelter- once she is an only cat on the home front, with a quiet, stable environment, we believe her affectionate nature will only become stronger.

You can read more about her on our blog! :-)

About Tree House Adoption Center

About Our Shelter...

Tree House is a humane organization that promotes the inherent value of every animal and strives to educate the public about proper and responsible animal care, with a focus on the care and placement of stray cats with special physical and emotional needs. We are committed to finding every healthy and treatable animal a home.

Tree House was founded in 1971 and since that time we have expanded and enhanced our programs and services to become the largest, no-kill, cageless shelter for sick, injured, abused and neglected cats in the Chicagoland area. To date we have found homes for nearly 14,000 cats. In addition to our focus on the rehabilitation and adoption of stray cats, we offer many other valuable programs and services, including our Free Spay/Neuter Program, Pet Loss Grief Support Group, Humane Investigations Team, Youth Volunteer Program, Animal-Assisted Therapy, Behavior Hotline, Pet Food Pantry, and Education Outreach Program.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are open every day of the week!

Saturday - Sunday: 12-6PM
Monday - Friday: 12-8PM

Note: Please allow at least an hour and half to complete the adoption process (application, interview, and tour). :-)

Our Adoption Process...

At Tree House, trained adoption counselors interview prospective adopters to understand their needs, and then adopters are escorted to the Adoption Floor to choose their future friend. Adopters are encouraged to take as much time as they need to find a cat. All adoption applications stay on file for three months so please don't feel that you need to rush to choose a companion cat right away.

Your adoption fee of $85 covers the cost of your cat's care at Tree House including: spay or neuter, deworming, flea treatment, FIV and FeLV testing, AVID microchip, veterinary examination, and all necessary vaccinations. We also give a 30-day health guarantee on all of our adoptions.
