Patrick is a very affectionate, happy, intelligent, 10 lb. Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. He loves everyone he meets, people and dogs alike. He will alert bark but once he meets you he will jump in your lap and give lots of kisses. Patrick LOVES to cuddle with the humans, but he also plays with his foster brother with squeaky toys, wresting, or chasing a ball. The most important trait to know about Patrick is he craves attention. He follows me around the house, cuddles in my lap, and sleeps with his foster brother in the pet bed. He would do best in a home with another canine. He ignores my elderly cats but would probably cuddle with them too if they let him. He very much loves other dogs and would probably do well at dog park.

Patrick is crate-trained, but he hates the crate. If he is to be crated, it works best if crated in a part of the house where he can see you. Otherwise, he whines and cries when crated. When folks are at home, Patrick does best if he is not crated at all and has free access to the activity in the home, to include a secured yard, where he can go potty at will, either by way of a doggie door, or an open door. (We still advocate that when a dog is new to an environment, any dog should be crated safely inside the home when folks are away, until such time that the behavior and practices of the new dog are fully observed. So in the case of Patrick, he should still be crated whether he likes it or not, initially, but we hope that he can transition quickly to move over to total freedom, therefore, contained outdoor areas should be secured with no compromised areas.)

Patrick understands some basic instructions, but will need some additional training with basic commands, as well as walking on the leash (he should use a harness in lieu of a neck controlled collar). Patrick is an intelligent dog who quickly learned the routine at his foster home. He would most likely do well with older kids, but may be a bit overwhelming to little kids. Patrick is a medium energy dog, who is not hyper. He does not spring and bounce all over the place. He listens to all commands like “quiet down,” “go to bed,” and “stay.” He will need moderate exercise and playtime, but a lot of this can occur with the other dog in the home. He also settles down when told.

Patrick is neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Patrick, please contact Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com.
