Cadet's Story...
Cadet is a one-year-old male German Shepherd/Lab mix. We think he may either have some American Bulldog in his heritage as well. He definitely favors German Shepherd in temperament and looks! When we heard Cadet was sitting alone at an outdoor animal impound in the cold of January, we decided to go evaluate him because we had just a little space left to save one more.

I entered his pen and he was so happy his whole body wagged; not just his tail! When I headed to my car for a leash, poor Cadet was sure I was leaving him behind and began trying to convince me to come back. If you are familiar with German Shepherds, you know they can be "talkers," and Cadet is definitely a talker . . . not a barker, but a talker. I let him think he talked me into bringing him to Almost Home, but, of course, I'd already made up my mind he would be our new rescue.

Cadet has never met another dog he doesn't like, but he should be in a cat-free home. We don't think he would hurt a kitty, but he would certainly annoy one to death! This is a young, strong energetic dog who will require training and regular exercise. He is probably too enthusiastic for small children, at least until he's had some training or outgrown his puppy wiggles.

Cadet is quickly catching on to crate and house training so we don't anticipate his new family will have any difficulty with training in his new home. This is a very smart boy! He learned the routine of our shelter in record time and aims to please. He is going to be a wonderful dog!

Cadet will be adoption-ready on February 16th. He is dewormed, up-to-date with all vaccinations, heartworm negative, on flea and heartworm preventative and will be neutered and microchipped at the time of adoption.
