About Our Shelter...
Animal House Fund is an independent, nonprofit, stray cat rescue organization. We’re dedicated to creating and maintaining an environmentally friendly, no-kill shelter and adoption center for the homeless cats and kittens of St. Louis City.
Animal House opened in August of 2010, with the arrival of dozens of cats and kittens from the city’s overcrowded animal control facility. The mayor of St. Louis had shuttered the decrepit animal control building just weeks earlier. Had it not been for Animal House, those cats and kittens would have had nowhere to go.
Besides being adoption personnel, the Animal House staff are part of a team that responds to calls from St. Louis residents about cats in need. We provide counseling, referrals and general information to the callers, and shelter and medical care for the cats.
All the cats at Animal House come to us from challenging circumstances that include neglect, abandonment and illness. Despite their sad histories, we provide each kitty with nutritious food, medical care, socialization, individual attention, lots of love and our very best effort to find each a loving, forever home.
The Animal House building is large, airy, inviting and – to the delight of our residents – exclusive to felines. Most days, there are at least 300 happy, healthy cats and kittens in our building, waiting to be adopted. We’re almost certain we have the perfect feline friend (or two) for you.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Umlaut, a St Louis Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in St Louis, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in St Louis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
