Molly's Story...
Meet Molly! She is a sweet, happy-go-lucky girl full of fun goofy energy and love! Molly is 3 years old and weighs 15 lbs. We believe her breed is Doxi, Chihuahua maybe Terrier mix but your guess is as good as ours. Molly is very smart and very eager to please which makes training easy. The 4 year old that visits Molly's foster home has trained her to do lots of silly tricks with a treat. Like sit pretty, dance and give kisses. Molly is a sweet girl and loves attention from her people, her favorite place to hang out is stretched across your lap or right next to you but if your lap is not available she is great at keeping herself entertained with her many toys and chewies. Molly also likes to play fetch with her toys; she even brings the toys right back to you at least 50% of the time J. Molly gets along well with the other small dog in her foster home and has not had any problems with other dogs she meets. Molly likes to chase cats so will need a home without cats. Molly is crate trained and potty trained but is not always happy about going outside in the cold. She is definitely a California girl and does not yet appreciate our rainy cold Washington weather. Molly is learning how to walk on a leash and feel safe riding in the car. Every day she gets better and more confident about both. Molly is a great dog; she is an amazing loyal companion. She has the sweetest temperament and when she looks at you with her big beautiful eyes she melts your heart. If you are interested in meeting Molly please fill out a statement of interest form @ www.alternativehumanesociety.com (under the ADOPT menu).

Come Meet Our Pets...
We can be found showing off our loveable dogs at Petco on Bakerview and Guide Meridian in Bellingham on the 1st and 2nd weekend of each month. We also hold an adopt-a-thon the third Saturday of every month at Pet Palace, also on the Guide Meridian in Bellingham. All our showings are between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Come on out and say hi!
Our Adoption Process...
AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. The potential adopter usually hears back from a volunteer within 2-3 days, but since many of our volunteers also work at full-time jobs, the entire process can take longer. Although we try our very best we usually will not be able to contact every person who submits a Statement of Interest, we reserve our limited resources for those who look like a good match.

Adoption Fees:
Dogs under 18 months – $170
Dogs over 18 months – $145
Senior dogs (older than 8 years) – $95

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Custer, Birch Bay, Blaine, Deming, Everson, Sumas, Maple Falls, Kendall, Whatcom County, Skagit County

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Molly, a Bellingham Dachshund/Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Dachshund/Chihuahua for sale in Bellingham, or seeking a Dachshund/Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Bellingham.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Bellingham already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Bellingham breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Dachshund/Chihuahua breeders who help with Dachshund/Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Bellingham paves the way for another one to be saved.
