Sager is a sweet senior dog that is healthy and not old for his age has a little onsetting hip arthitis otherwise healthy, he weighs 100 pounds his color is Black/Sable
He's been loved and well cared for his teeth are in great shape too, he knows many commands as below
Sager’s commands are Sitz= Sit, Platz= Down, Stand, Come, Heel, Stay, Leave it, Off, and Kennel.
He is not big on jumping on any furniture or the bed but on occasion he has jumped on the bed but has never slept there he has his own nice dog beds.
He is very quiet in the house and well behaved
If someone comes to the door he does bark and run to the door so I usually put him in another room or outside when I answer the door.
When guests come he’s very eager to say hi but does not come across as aggressive. I will admit that due to his size he does intimidate those that don’t know him. When they do get to know him they realize he’s a softy.
He is protective of his home and property as any GS would be but not aggressive
He does live with an altered female dog that is about 30 lbs. She’s a sheltie/ golden retriever mix and both dogs get along very well. Sager does not snap back if she snaps at him for stepping on her.
We recently had 2 stray male altered dogs in our yard with Sager (I wasn’t aware they were in my yard at the time) and he did not approach them. I’m unsure of how he would do with cats. He seems interested in them but cats usually stay away from him so I haven’t been able to see how he’d do with them.
He’s a sloppy drinker and tends to get water all over the kitchen floor and he has no problem eating his food and then eating our other dogs food if she leaves it.
He has never fought with her over food. I think he would do better as an only alpha male dog.
He is very good at coming when called and obeying commands. He does like toys preferably balls or his kong wubba. He does great walking on a leash and does not pull. He does prefer a faster paced walk.
I have had Sager since he was 7 weeks old. He’s papered and his color is black sable. His Mom was imported from Germany and his Dad was German bred. You can look him up online as Sager Vom Holtzberg.
He is a sweet boy and has an AKC title in obedience.
He placed first all 3 days with his score improving each day.
At home strangers can come to my door and my Sager is just fine with them. When he gets to know the person and they come over again he will get excited and try and jump with his upper body on their lap to say hi.
Sager should to go to a home with an experienced handler that does not have small children.
(in our case my 3 yr old keeps kicking him pulling tail poking eyes etc the min we do not look and though Sager loves her and gives kisses he's not tolerating the abuse of kicking kids and no dog should have too
I also have a 3 month old that will be crawling within the next couple months so keeping an eye on two kids and the dog is too much of a worry and cannot risk it so Sager is looking for a adult home or respectful kids over 12 to live out his golden years
He's NOT a aggressive dog he's a sweet loving boy that's in great shape for his age
He's a sweet and happy boy looking for a super loving family that takes him for a walk a day, plays some ball and ensures he's taken care off taking joint support for his hips and painmeds if need be, love and pamper this sweety for many more years to come
Sager can be the only dog or have a smaller mellow good natured fem dog at home as he does now
Sager is not neutered and at his age we do not believe he should be going under anastigia as that would be too dangerious unless it's a lifesaving procedure, but he's UTD and fully vetted and healthy and seems much younger than his real age
small adoption fee, fenced yard, home visit, references
