Candy's Story...
My name is Candy and I am a year old as of February 14th, still considered a puppy. I am categorically a ‘mutt’, though my purebred lineage mix would consist of a Whippet, Chihuahua and Jack Russell Terrier. I was born in a shelter, my mother was a throw-away stray and I have spent my entire short life there, surrounded by cats and dogs all looking for loving homes. I have been with my Foster Mom for about 2 months and have grown leaps and bounds with regard to my socialization skills, both with humans and other animals. I am great with other dogs and quick to adapt, trust and play. With humans, I need more understanding and a day or 2 to bond and gain trust. I am loving, playful and want nothing more than to sit on a lap and be held or snuggled. I am house trained, recognize commands like ‘Sit’ (I have mastered that) and am working on others such as ‘Down’ and ‘Stay’. I am not aggressive or a ‘barker’ but can be protective of my domain if needed. I am a fast learner and very smart. I walk well on a leash and travel easily in the car. My Foster mom travels a lot and though emotionally bonded, I realize that I cannot stay with her. I am such a good and loving companion that I seek only serious inquiries, as I do not want to get my hopes up for a forever home, only to go back to the shelter. Please consider adopting me…. I will not let you down.
Thanks to her Foster Mom, Candy is a better trained puppy. Candy has been spayed and has had all of her shots, including heartworm preventive, deworming and flea control. She is a very loving dog, Her Foster Mom would keep her if she could but she cannot. Adopt this baby and you will not be disappointed!

About Our Rescue Group...
Libby's Way attempts to relieve the flood of homeless animals in our area by providing an outlet to excellent homes. While our first objective is to prevent the overpopulation crisis in Georgia through education and spay/neuter, we have adopted to adaquate homes or transferred to other trusted rescues hundreds of dogs and cats. We built a shelter in a rural and improverished area of South Georgia and we are the first organization of its kind in this area. Our shelter also provides a sactuary for those pets that take longer to adopt.
Come Meet Our Pets...
We adopt at Petsmart in Savannah, GA on Satudays and at Petsmart adopt-a-thons. We also adopt at other Festivals/Events in South Georgia. If anyone is interested in a pet we will make a special appointment.
Our Adoption Process...
We initiate conversations and require a pre-adopt agreement. We do a home visit prior to adoption. The pet then goes to the home on a trial visit before the adoption is complete. We do a followup visit after adoption. We accept back any pet that doesn't work out. Our standard fee for adoption is $150 and can be reduced for special cases. Our contract specifies that spay/neuter is required. We provide spay/neuter vouchers or reduce the adoption fee and specify the spay/neuter requirement in the contract. Some people prefer to use their own vets. All pets have their required shots and health checks. We like puppies to have all their required shots before taking them to a public place for adoption.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties...
We mainly serve Collins, GA and Tattnall County, GA. We are also called to surrounding counties for assistance as well. We adopt nationwide to anyone interested in our pets and transfer to other trusted organizations.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Candy, a St Simons Chihuahua/Whippet puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua/Whippet for sale in St Simons, or seeking a Chihuahua/Whippet puppy from a breeder in St Simons.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St Simons already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St Simons breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua/Whippet breeders who help with Chihuahua/Whippet rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St Simons paves the way for another one to be saved.
