My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I’m Woody, and one of my favorite things is putting my head in your lap so you can pet me. I also like to follow you around wherever you go. Even though I am very affectionate and love to cuddle, I am well mannered and do not get on the couch or bed. When I’ve decided you’ve given me enough attention, I will lie down near you, and at night I’ll lie quietly on my bed at the foot of your bed. I don’t jump up on people or beg at the table but I will sometimes stand up at the counter or table to see if there’s anything I’m interested in.

My foster mom says that one thing I should confess is that I’m toy possessive. I’ll growl at my foster dog and cat siblings if they walk nearby when I have a toy. My foster parents think the perfect home for me would be one where I am the only pet, there are no small children, and there is someone home with me almost all of the time.

I agree that I don’t like to be alone. I’ve been fine to be loose in the house when my foster parents are at work and my foster dog brother is with me, but if I’m the only dog home alone, I have had some issues. I know how to open doors and I do NOT like to be in a crate. My foster dad thinks I could perhaps get used to being alone and be fine, though, since I’ve had some big life changes recently, so it’s not surprising that I’d be a little nervous. And when you come home, I will greet you very enthusiastically with wiggles and a very waggy tail!

I used to be an outdoor dog and when I came to SEVA GRREAT I had heartworm and a torn cruciate ligament that had been causing pain for a long time. My leg is now fixed and the heartworm treatment is finished, so I am in great shape. I can take longer walks and I like to run and chase and retrieve a ball. My foster mom says I now seem like a much younger dog.

I love going outside to play and go for walks. Sometimes I’ll go out onto the grass and lie down to play by myself with a toy, but since my foster family doesn’t have a fenced yard, I haven’t spent any time outside by myself. (I really don’t mind that, though, because I like being an indoor dog.) When I’m on a walk, I’m happy and eager and don’t mind a brisk pace. I like to greet other dogs and will pull on my leash a little. Sometimes if I am not on my leash I will wander around, exploring or maybe even chasing rabbits, but I always come back pretty soon.

My foster mom says that since I used to be outside a lot of the time, I would probably be OK outside in a fenced yard for short periods of time as long as I couldn’t figure out how to open the gate.

Overall, once I adjust to change, I’m a happy, well-behaved, affectionate, mellow fellow. Do I seem like just the right new friend and family member for you?
